    West Coast Canada here...
Ordered it in September, and was told to expect a 6-7 month wait. I was told the TRD OR and Pro would be much longer lead times. It was delivered Nov 30. It's a 2023 SR5 with a few upgrades. I got a text from my dealer on Nov 20th saying that it was due at the end of November, my first thought was that they got the wrong month or the wrong guy! It was going to be here next week?!
Once I picked it up, I asked how it was that I got it so much faster than expected? The dealer said that they never know the exact delivery and get surprised themselves. They also said that some folks who'd originally put down deposits, had backed out stating concerns with increased mortgage rates and cost of living expenses....they were second guessing their decision to buy a new Taco. That moved me up the list.

    Here she is..

September 2022, started to source an SR5-4WD, silver. 4 states, nothing, except already sold, dealer will not sell out of their market radius zip code.
End of month, dealer we purchased another Tacoma from, called, said they just received allotment on a Lunar Rock, OR, with only $727 in options, and a 2023.
He said if they get info on an SR5, they would switch the deposit to it. Never happened. Took delivery 12/27.

So general question here: is there anything I can do to check to see how long it will take to receive my Tacoma? Aside from checking with the dealer.. I ordered a TRD off-road 6’ bed in black with the premium package 8/7/22. I check in periodically with the dealer and they have no clue when it will be there. Their most recent estimation is another six months. That puts the wait at almost a year. Is that normal?

I was in the same boat after waiting 4 months and getting nothing from the dealer went on a search hard and found what I wanted. Best bet is to find a dealer that already has it or has it on the way and snag it

You could add this option to your survey: "look and call around to dealers all across the country until you found exactly what you were looking for, buy it out-of-state, then fly to go get it or have it shipped to you".

Seems like OR with Premium and/or Tech is hard to come by right now. I placed and order for a similar truck and have been waiting since 5/22, finally got word that my truck will be built next week. Because I have been waiting for a while, the dealer that I am working with is willing to sell it to me for 2022 MSRP (went up a little for 2023) and throw in some of the accessories.

I have spent quite a bit of time looking in at dealerships across my state, adjoining states, and even nationally. I did find one a few months back at a dealership about an hour and half away. When I first started talking to them they said they were not doing any markups. I had to twist their arm a little, but when they finally sent me a written list of what was included, it had $4.000 of "dealer installed options". They were not willing to negotiate, so I walked on that one. I have found a few more out-of-state for MSRP (including one that was $750 under MSRP), but they were not willing to sell to out-of-state buyers.

I still look daily to see what is out there, and it does seems like there is a slight uptick in ORs with Premium/Tech. Hopefully something will come up for you soon. I would definitely continue to look while you wait. You may be able to find what you are looking for a reasonable price sooner than later.

    Good luck.

My dealer was very careful NOT to disclose an ETA. In his words, they are at the mercy of the factory and the distribution is always a surprise to them. Must be inter-dealership/manufacturer politics.

I don’t think it’s politics so much as it’s just good business practice.

I regularly advise customers that I would rather under promise and over deliver. As such, I cannot and will not guarantee vehicle delivery dates, availability of manufacturer incentives, interest rates, etc. Similarly, I can’t “lock in” trade values for 2, 4, 6 months or however long it takes to get the vehicle.

What I do promise is that I will act in good faith to deliver a deal as close to what I’m showing them today whenever their vehicle lands at my dealership. I find that it serves me well to be open and transparent about what I can and cannot do upfront so that there are no surprises.

Ultimately, if a deal changes against a customer’s favor to the point that they walk away from a deal it doesn’t serve the customer or the dealership.

In this unprecedented market with limited inventory, long delays and ever increasing interest rates, dealers need to flexible. I have shortened alot of deals to minimize the impact to our customers.

Goodyear on my 2023 OR-4 WD, took delivery 12/27. Switched to Michelin LTX/MS Defenders same day. No serious off road driving here. Would have had an SR5 before this, none available at the time. Picture showing 18, OR, this Tacoma are 16.
