When I put a deposit on the truck it was already built and listed in transit on the dealership website, so I pulled the Vin from the web page before it disappeared.

I had a temporary VIN on the spec sheet when I put the deposit down. I just asked my dealer for the permanent VIN after it was built.

At this point Id try and find your truck on the dealer website, the vin should be on there somewhere. Or ask the dealer for the VIN, if you've put a deposit down, there should def be a VIN, even if its just the initial temporary VIN.

Did you put a deposit on a specific truck scheduled to be built, or just to get your name on the list if they get an allocation matching what you want?

I didn’t know there was a difference so I guess the allocation? I just went in and said I wanted a 23, this colour with these features and signed a paper

Ya, that's probably the problem, it doesnt seem you actually put a deposit on a real truck most likely. Your best bet is to be proactively checking all dealerships anywhere close, or not close, for the truck your looking for, especially if it's a more rare model (MT, LB, AC). My understanding is dealerships get allocations twice a month, and the more popular models are sold before they ever make it to the dealership, so you gotta find it pretty shortly after allocation. I started looking 7 months ago, put a deposit on an allocated truck a little over 3 months ago, and the truck finally arrived today, and I think I'm lucky lol....

so he is basically bullshitting me when he gives me a date? Where are you looking? I have not been able to find a brand new lunar rock OR anywhere. Even when I find other colours from seeing them parked at dealers they are already sold.

I dont really know, I'm just guessing. You should call the salesperson and try and clarify your situation. Ask if the truck has already been allocated (and if so, whats the VIN). Did you put down an actual deposit, or just sign some random piece of paper. If it turns out your just on a list, f that, I'd be proactively looking at all dealerships for the truck you want. I'm both OC and a big idiot so I used google maps to find all the toyota dealerships in my state, and neighboring states, made a spreadsheet, and then checked em all a couple times a month looking for newly allocated trucks. Had I not been a big idiot, I would have used https://www.toyota.com/search-inventory/ and made my life alot easier. Its worth noting though that the main toyota site doesn't always list all the trucks, when a huge batch went on hold, they disappeared from that site, but for at least my truck, it was still listed on the local dealers site. How crazy you want to get is up to you. I also compromised on color....

You should definitely have your dealer clarify if you have a specific truck assigned to you. If not your best bet is definitely to expand your search radius to a bunch of dealers. I sent the same email to about 30 dealerships specifying what I wanted. Only 3 or 4 of them actually had anything that matched that in their allocation and wasn’t already presold. Ended up having to go with a dealership about three hours away from me. Like @TacoShredder20 the whole process took months. I searched for a couple of months and put my deposit down on a specific truck about 3.5 months ago. It was actually built a month and a half ago. Now I’m just waiting on it to get off the QC hold.

Hey all, been lurking on this thread for a while. I put a deposit down on a '23 Lunar Rock OR DCSB in the beginning of Jan. Build date was 02/09 and put on hold 02/14. The dealer has been good about updating me and just let me know my truck's hold has been extended to a 70-day hold and said the countdown starts from 02/14. I've been seeing a lot of 63-day holds so hoping the rest of you do not get the extra week extension like I just did. At this point, what is another week of waiting, haha!

After looking through other forums, I found a method to track rail movement. Not sure if it will work for everyone, but it did for me. You will need your rail car number for it to work.

    1. Call 1 (800) 235-2352 and then press 1
    2. Enter the rail car initials (81814192) this translates to TTGX for those that are curious
    3. Enter your 6 digit rail car number
    4. Automated system will ask to add another rail car. Hit ## or say done.
    5. Listen for updated location.

I just found out that my '23 TRD OR DCSB (black, automatic, with premium package and adv tech pkg) has been released from hold. It was built on 1/31, put on hold 2/14. I should have it next week! Super excited!
