Iv'e been told that Sport M/T is available for allocation in the Gulf States region. In fact they seem to be emphasizing it.
The local dealer actually has Tacos on the lot and more coming, although most (but not all) are SRs or SR5s. Apparently
Gulf States has given up on trains and will now be trucking the Tacos from Benicia to Houston. Someone has used up all
    the carrier railcars!

@Cetacean Sensation Did you get yours yet?

I took mine on its first "climb" yesterday. Got on the interstate. The entrance ramp is about as steep (and high) of a hill as we have here. :D

When exactly is a truck given VIN? Someone decides exactly what trim, engine and options a truck will have then generates a VIN then it’s built? At what point in the process can the VIN start being tracked?

Got a call from my dealership. Truck is going through inspections and will be ready for pickup Monday! Had a hold placed 5/19, didn’t receive notifications of doors unlocking until 6/1. Got notifications again this morning, 6/3. Now it’s here! Pics on Monday!

Managed to stay below 110k miles to avoid that service on my trade in car too!

When a truck is allocated it is assigned a temp serial number. Once it is in production it receives its permanent VIN. The VIN is attached to the vehicle in the tracking system when production is complete.

So the VIN on my allocation paperwork is a temp serial number?

If one of the last six characters is alpha it is a temp serial. An actual VIN will have all numbers in the last six characters.

3 months later and she’s finally here. Thanks DragonPro for the weekly updates. Ended up driving 400 miles from Arizona to California the day I got it, and I’m loving it!

I just put a deposit on an Off Road yesterday. Its a pretty basic model. The dealer says that they "earned" the truck so they will definitely be getting it. What do they mean by "earned" it? Does that make it more hardfast that they'll recieve the truck? I have the VIN but the build date is 6/22/23 so I'd imagine I won't see anything even if I were to look it up.

There are options I don't want i.e. step tubes, OEM Weatherproof mats, and some charger cable package. They said if they can make the changes before it goes to port, then they will be removed. What does that mean? If the truck has not been built yet can they not just request the parts not be installed? Also, what is the difference between "at the factory" and "at port" as far as manufacturing/what happens in the process?

    Thanks for the help.

I put an allocation request back in February 19 2022 it finally got allocated after 15 months but 3 months to get it sometime in July it’ll receive at the dealership but you might get yours by December maybe it’s hard to get a manual transmission in Tacoma access cab

Port installed options or PIO on your paperwork are options installed at the port of entry from which ever country it came from, for a Tacoma it would be Mexico. They are Toyota options but not installed at the factory and usually can’t be removed. You need to be careful of dealer installed options, that’s when the dealer adds overpriced mostly useless options when they get the truck then tack it on to the MSRP. When you gave a deposit did you get an out the door price? If not they are more than likely going to add stuff to your truck then charge you for it and these days especially with Tacomas they will not remove them. This is what I experienced in the last year or so of shopping for a allocated OR.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. The options I asked them to remove are listed as PIO's on the paperwork so should I assume that they won't actually be able to remove them? I did get an out-the-door price but the options I was trying to remove were still included until they could "confirm on Monday with Toyota" if they were able to be removed. Does build date matter when it comes to this? Also, is the build date the day they expect the build to be finished or the day they begin building the truck?

They might be able to get them removed but as far as I know it’s not easy.
I really don’t know how Toyota production works but @DragonPro23 is pretty savy on the subject so perhaps he will chime in
