The last new car i purchased , i had a dealer that was so set on me using their finance, they even told me their dealer gets a small amount for each customer they push to certain lenders, specifically Chrysler financial at the time. They said i could pay off loan using a refinance at my credit union in 3 months if i wanted to.

I hate the Finance and insurance part of the transaction, they try and bully a person and use switch tactics. Go in with a firm number make sure you leave with that or better. As i mentioned in one of my posts, I was able to get more out of my trade-in when they said it was mandatory to add on VIN etching for an additional $200.00, I said that's fine, but i want another $200 for my trade-in , same when it came to the extended warranty. I fired back that I shouldn't have to buy an extended warranty if the quality was good, but I will buy a warranty if i got more for my trade. Explain that you'd love to leave positive feedback on the social media websites, and give them accolades, these salesman and dealers seem so hel bent on looking good on the internet.

Your CU should refinance you as well. Thats a great rate. My CU used to offer 1.49% on 36 month loans, I loved that.

They might refuse to take a cash payment. It’s a seller’s market right now and a lot of them are taking advantage. Just make sure there’s no prepayment penalty and pay it off the first month.

I'd take the time money approach if you can get loans below inflation and no penalties on payoff, why not?

They’re going to react like you farted, because it’s taking away a big chunk of the money they expect to get.

man if there is one, I couldn’t find it. I was also checking because I’m using the college Grad cash. You’d think they would try and protect themselves from someone refinancing out ASAP but maybe enough people don’t that they find it unnecessary - or even less likely, there’s regulation or laws protecting consumers from this sort of predatory lending tactics. Would love this answered from someone who’s refinanced after a month or two.

I paid cash (cashier's check from my bank) for my Taco, $48k+. They stil ran a credit report on me. Dealer knew ahead of time that I would be paying cash. Maybe finance people did not get a word?

Fuck... sounds like I should go get some donuts and coffee and go have a conversation with my dealer...

I appreciate all the advise. I think I'll be honest and say I'd like to pay cash, but if they won't let me I'll max out the down-payment and just play along.

This old ship doesn't have to win every battle anymore.

I don't think the dealer can refuse an up front full payment. There's no way they could. That would be like going to Best Buy, and being forced to finance a new television.

You want to buy the vehicle, not them. My dealer specifically asked if I would be paying for it outright, financing or leasing. I decided to keep a chunk of money in the bank, you know, in case shit. Handed them a bank check for 25k. They didn't seem to care how I bought it, as long as I bought it.

2/3/22: Dealer notified me they were allocated the exact truck I wanted (2022 TRD Pro MT in Black)
2/5/22: Went in and met with salesman
2/8/22: Put $1000 deposit down. VIN shows a week 9 build, they are expecting the truck delivered in April sometime.

Did you make sure the deposit is refundable? Just checking. I'm sure everything will go well, but just be safe. I probably should have gone with my gut and waited for a pro, maybe next time ;) Congrats!

I just put down a $500 deposit on an incoming manual off road. It doesn’t have the LED lights but it’s otherwise exactly what I wanted. Supposedly scheduled to arrive mid March.

    Well good luck to ya!

Post some pics when you get it. If you plan on doing mods and stuff, it's nice to setup a build log.

Didn't want to go with the Lime Green Metallic though? ;)

I hope there are more people vetoing ELM; that would make it easier for me to get the one I ordered.

Is that even legal for them to make people finance? I wonder if that’s a salesman tactic. It just doesn’t seem legal.
