I wanted a 2022 TRDORDCSB. I went to the only dealership in my area that isn’t asking $2-5K over MSRP. I test drove a 2020 4Runner and 2020 Tacoma on 8/9. I made my choice and gave them a deposit to find me a TRD in Lunar Rock, White, Magnetic grey, or Silver only add-on package LED Headlights and fogs. They had one Magnetic grey with no LED package that had a build day of 9/5 they could request a color change to Lunar Rock but not an upgrade to LED. I went home having no idea of when they would call with an allocation but they said every other week they would get an allocation list to look at. I went down on 8/16 and decided to ask for white as my only option ( I thought Lunar rock defines the year IMHO I wasn’t sure I would love it years from now). They let me know that I would have to wait longer for a specific color and if they couldn’t get one by 9/30 that it would be a 2023 model. The costs of everything could make Delivery, processing, handling and MSRP go up! I was willing to find out. I received a call on 9/2 that build date for vehicle is 10/7 2023 in a new color code Ice Cap. DD5D8603-5C04-4FFB-9273-46B59F6F3FE5.jpg

2023? Thought it might need a start on the year to come!

Waiting for a call for my 2023 allocation myself sounds like yours went pretty quick

I am in the middle of trading in my 22 sport for a 23 OR 4x4 with only LED lights; they’re giving me great trade in value, getting it for MSRP; and I have a build date of 10/27! Set to deliver to my dealer in so cal mid November. I contacted my guy about 2 weeks ago.

Had the same with my 22. I ended up finding the truck myself and went back and took my deposit. I'd suggest looking at dealers as far as you're willing to travel and you may get lucky and find an allocation that no one has claimed yet or better find one on the lot that no one has claimed yet.

Yeah I honestly don’t mind that if it takes that long but it’s going to happen I’m goood with it. I’m just concerned they stop making them to switch over to the 2024’s and I get nothing. I’m looking around at other dealer inventory every couple days just in case something shows up somehwhere else

Searching for a TRD Pro 6MT in Solar Octane. No luck so far.

The experiences here suggest if you can wait, the best deal would be to put a deposit down on one and then cool your heels for many months. If you cannot wait, you may either be disappointed, or may need to pay over MSRP.

I can wait, but putting down a deposit without an allocation to the dealer you put the deposit down with, is just wishing on a star. If I find an allocation, I will put down a deposit and wait as long as it takes. My 2021 TRD OR DCSB 6MT was totaled in June, so I’ve been waiting a while already and will do what it takes to get the replacement that I want.

Sorry to hear about your Off Road; that sucks.

Regarding putting a deposit down without an allocation, a path I chose, effectively gets you in line; if/when a dealer in your area gets an allocation which matches your request, it will be offered to everyone in the line, and if none of them take the option, then, and only then, will you be able to opt for it.

I get that, but I live in a Metropolitan area with several dealers. I would have to put a deposit down with every one of them, or hope I chose the one that gets the allocation. There is no way it would be traded to the dealer I placed the deposit with. I have dealers looking for one as their allocations come, which seems the best process at this point. I have not been told by any of them that there are deposits ahead of me. I will adjust if things change.

Interesting, when I put my deposit down I was told there were two dozen deposits in front of me; for the first few months I received a status update from my sales associate basically saying, "No allocation". Three or four months in I got a couple of calls saying an allocation had popped up, close to what I'd requested and hadn't been opted for by anybody in front of me; I declined each allocation until one popped up with my exact build but my second choice color.

Maybe your market is different; good luck on your quest!

I put down a deposit roughly a month ago knowing that the dealer did not yet receive their allocation. Looking for a '23 TRD OR DCLB in Lunar Rock (Celestial Silver 2nd choice). Still waiting with no change in status. This might be a dumb question, but in regard to "finding an allocation" is this a matter of contacting different dealers until you find one with an allocation for the truck you're looking for that's not yet reserved? Or is there another way of doing this?

My understanding is exactly as you have described. The allocation is dealer specific -- not an allocation pool that every dealer pulls from. So yes, you have to contact different dealers until you find one that has an allocation for the truck that you are looking for. When supplies were plentiful, dealers would trade with each other, although I have heard that in the case of TRD Pros, they were rarely traded from the allocated dealer to the dealer that had a customer waiting because they are so easily sold.
