based on the replies, seems like the automatic trannys they put in these Toyota trucks are good dependable units, unlike some other transmissions I've heard about

    thanks

My original transmission has nearly 285,000 miles on it, and it still shifts smoothly as it always has.

The voice of reason. A transmission cooler will help but maybe 10 degrees temp reduction at best and does nothing to enhance the quality of the oil. Amsoil shows a 15-20 degree reduction plus superior fluidity in the cold. Nothing better I have ever found.

My old 99 v6 4wd is still going with the new owner at 345000,
I spoke with him last week. I blew both head gaskets on
the original engine at around 328000 from pulling a 6000 lb tractor and trailer combo, but the trans held up great. Replaced the engine and
drove it out to around 335000 then sold it. Only maint on the trans was
drain and refill every 30000 or so miles.
