If your truck spent much time on the dealership lot, it probably won't last long. When the dealership has to show the truck they put a 50 amp (or larger) charger on the battery for a fast charge. Batteries that have been fast charged get a heavy sulfated. "Sulfation, a build-up of lead sulfate crystals, is the number one cause of early failures of lead-acid, sealed AGM or flooded (wet cell-filler caps) batteries." See the attached Web Site.

Kind of. The truck has a dedicated Hot Jump Box/Power Box for jumping the truck, as well as providing an air compressor, led lighting, 12v and 120v plugs. Best piece of recovery gear I have. Never leave home without it. I've used it more on other stranded motorists than myself.

Stock Battery Still from first release 2016 tacoma. I do check the battery water level before and after the summer months and top off the charge with a battery maintainer. Last time i topped it off which was last October the 8ah maintainer needed to run a few hours before it automatically shut off.

These battery's slosh around when offloading and is the reason your battery post might get corrosion as well as get a little low on distilled water.

Next battery is going to be some sort of AGM battery.

Not quite unique. I've had two batteries each last over 10 years in the same vehicle (26 year old Civic). The car was bought in TX, moved to IN, then GA, then MN, back to GA, and now in CO. So each batt has seen both wx extremes. Granted a wee 1.5L engine w/ full synthetic oil doesn't require much cranking to start. But still... 10 yrs!

Get a new one before you're stuck somewhere. My battery died on me after 18 months (fortunately it was replaced under warranty). The OEM batteries in these trucks are terrible.

My 4runner battery was replaced right after I bought it 8 years ago. It just failed this winter. Walmart brand.

    What brand/model do you have?

Also, I the battery in my truck I got in Oct 2015 is still going, it has struggled a bit more this winter though. Anyone know of any good and light weight options for replacement? I've heard the battery mount tray isn't the strongest for offroad use and can crack over the years from the weight.

One thing i noticed was that my battery was spilling a little. We use our trucks harder than most, and with all the jostling from bumpy trails it probably needs to be topped off

My 2017 battery is shown below. Been off gassing and corroding for over a year and now having slow starting issues. Resting voltage is around 12.28 to 12.38 volts. Should be closer to 12.6. I bought the BatteriesPlus Northstar branded battery today and will be putting it tonight. I went stock size of 24F.

Not a 16, but on my 2015 with a Group 27F, I had to replace the battery at 43k miles about a week ago. It was failing to hold a charge and had a slow cranking condition.

Still running factory 100K kms (60K miles)

Fun fact: My 2006 rav4 has 250K kms with factory battery, started in -12C couple days ago. I'm gonna run out the string of pearls on that one despite the recent fouling up of the terminals. Going for broke!
