The original pump is still OK on my 2.4 '96, with only about 82K so far. But replaced the alternator last month, after the bearing went.

250K on the original pump. Always have used the OEM pink/red coolant, which USUALLY plays a big part on the life of those. That OEM coolant has never let me down so we will keep using it. Some people hate it, some love it. Whatever.

If your changing to new belts and unknowingly over tightening those,,your gonna take out a high mileage used water pump pretty fast. I believe a majority of those failures are exactly that.

If I had the time and money to fit a electric water pump on there, I would be all over that. Would welcome the extra 10hp and quicker revs it would bring.

I've considered an electric cooling fan for my base 2.4 '96, if only because my fan clutch is lazy and doesn't disengage sometimes, making for extra highway noise.
I don't want the added complication of an electric waterpump.
