For shocks, it depends on the quality of the unit and how the truck is used/abused. Crappy shocks in heavy use/offroading/mudding, you might get 30k out of them if you are lucky. Quality shocks in normal street use should last beyond 100k. Yes this is a big generalization and there will be exceptions. My 2006 2.7 5-lug has 130k on the factory shocks and rides great, no bounce, but it gets driven like a normal passenger car most of the time. The factory shocks are quality units IMHO.

Springs... by what I have read here on TW, springs are a real crap shoot. The recall seems to be a good permanent fix, but those who haven't done the recall might be fine (for now) or might be falling apart. Depends on how the vehicle has been used/abused. No recall on my 2006.

Dampers (shocks/struts) wear slowly. It's not like you wake up one day and say...."oh I need new dampers". You adjust right along with the rate of wear. So you don't notice it.

You guys with 100k+ miles on your rigs? Trust me....your dampers are well beyond their lifespan

In my case the stock shocks lasted about 12K miles. My brother in law commented on how my truck rode just like a car. Had some bilsteins on it by the next week.

the reason I ask is most of the time when I see another Tacoma the front always looks higher than my truck does. I'm not sure if it is my eyes or if it really is not knowing what the previous owner used the truck for. I think it was originally from NJ.

Sorry to revive mega old thread. My truck(2015 sport) is coming up on 60k miles and I am wondering if I should plan to replace my suspension around 80-100k? I don't mind waiting until it breaks but would that be dangerous? I think I might need to do brake pads so I'll do it all at once if I need to

@pandataco I'll be another parrot to say 3rd gen take offs... I went 100k miles before brakes. Fronts still had some life, the rears looked good. YMMV...
