I don't keep steak around long enough to freeze it. When I want steak, I go buy it and cook it the same day. Nothing beats fresh.

Fresh is the way to go but sometimes you just don't have the time to grocery shop every 2-3 days.

I wouldn't call picking up steak grocery shopping, but I understand. It's not too outta the way for me.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
Wrapped in good quality butcher paper, tightly, it can last a good long time. How long?? I've had some steaks in the deep freezer for 13-14 mos and they were fine.
But wrapped in nothing more than grocery store styrofoam and saran wrap not too long. Maybe two months best..

well i survived it. it was just saran wrapped from the store (pretty tight though!) It was tasty, marrinaded it with some worchieisiadhsfiaoshdf sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, salt, pepper.... i can't believe 2 months is all a steak is good for in the freezer.

and why was it in there so long? I buy meats when I go to the store and just store them...then forget about them. It takes a good while to thaw, so if I dont take it out a couple days before then it wont thaw. and red meat thaws too quick to leave out all day I think.

Amen to that!! I hate going to the store to begin with....

I don't even know how long I've had steaks in the freezer for. If they're freezer burned - I toss 'em. Getting a good airtight seal on 'em is crucial when freezing.

Granted, I don't ever plan on keeping steaks in the freezer for that long. But when I'm cleaning the freezer out and find old freezer burned stuff ...it's tossed for sure.

As for the year old frozen turkey's - they're always in their original airtight packageing w/ no freezer burn.
