How long should one wait to go to Jiffy Lube with a new car of a new generation model?

Watch this video on changing the oil and filter on a Tacoma, then decide if it is a task you can handle. By the way, I would recommend using a Toyota brand filter.

The 3rd gen taco oil change is the same as 2010+ 4runners/FJ cruisers. Nothing special.

during the apocalypse you can take your truck to jiffy lube and change the oil there yourself. kill off the zombie workers first though...

Very sound advice all around. OP, your much better off doing it on your own. The process is uber easy with plenty of write-ups and video tutorials floating around. All the scammer expose news segments centered around those quick lube places are just icing on the cake to keep me away.

Don’t ever go to a quick lube place, period. Find a competent dealer/independent shop. Try an have it done when they are not super busy. Learn to do it yourself,it’s not that hard. You Tube is a good source. I don’t change mine, but I trust my mechanic, I also schedule my services so they are not surprised.

Never. NOT Ever! Remember Firestone, goodyear, etc, etc are just franchise more likely to rip off or screw up than a good independent.

Since OP got the question answered many times over, I will throw this out there.
The peanut butter you speak of is called Jif and has never been called jiffy, however, many people think it is.

    ^^^^THIS!!!!!^^^^

Don't even get started on those kinds of places, they are FUCKING evil. Especially if you are female. A good family friend took her car to one of those firestone places and they ripped her off 14 ways to Sunday and her car still didn't run right. Her crime was being young, cute, and clueless about how cars work. After she dropped $$$ at firestone I fixed the problem for $ and 15 minutes of detective work. (leaking vacuum hose)

:anonymous:I will admit to sending my wife to a small independent quick lube place for her oil changes, because her car is a pain in the ass to work on. But, the owner sits in the middle of the shop and has an eagle eye on all of the workers. He's a grumpy cuss, but his shop is run clean, tight and honest.

My mom went to one about 10 years ago, they forgot to put to drain plug back in. She picked me up at swim practice, oil light came on, we checked the oil and saw it was empty lol. Got a tow to our usual shop (paid for by jiffy) and luckily no damage.

I know someone who had their front diff (FWD) drained instead of oil lol.

I don't even think they're mechanics at those places

Get a Fumoto valve and have the dealer swap it on next time you take it in for an oil change. Make changing it yourself even easier and less messy.

Then you don't even have to deal with keeping one of those big oil changing pans around in the garage, just keep the empty oil container that you bought it in. Drain the old oil right back into the original container and take it back to the store for disposal.

I don't know why or how some of the lube places are still in business. I've seen some of the worst oil change jobs come from them. It's a simple drain and replenish process, difficult to screw up unless you are brain dead.

Last time I went to one of those, they couldn’t get the skid plate reattached and didn’t tell me how few of the bolts they used on it- I could hear it rattling on the way home and discovered it almost falling off. I couldn’t get it to seat right and took it off and discovered a filter wrench wedged between the plate and oil pan.

Is this really the quality of work you want for your truck?

I took a 1972 VW bug to a jiffy lube in 2005. They put in 6 quarts of oil!

Never, EVER take a vehicle to Jiffy Lube!

I'd go to Walmart first in an absolute "oil change emergency".

It's super easy to screw up if you're higher than a kite. A buddy's kid worked at a Jiffy Lube for a few weeks. Every single employee, from the manager to the flunky, was using.

pretty easy when most of the guys working there are losers with no care at all.

I made the mistake of getting my tires done by Canadian Tire, which as you can guess started as a tire place but its very similar to walmart now. I specifically told the kid who was doing mine when I gave him the wheel locks key and spline drive key for my other lug nuts that you CANNOT use an impact wrench on the spline key.

Sure enough watched him do so and destroy the key, and told him its a 21mm, he used something else.

Same moron doesn't know when a wheel is stuck you leave a lug nut on before kicking it so the wheel doesn't fall on the brakes or the ground. Didn't do that either. Dropped the OEM wheel right to the ground. Such idiotic kids at these places. Watched them the whole time, both guys doing tires and lube were probably 17-21 and kept fooling around the whole time. Throwing shit at each other. laughing at their stupidity.

I was pissed while there hearing the service guys taking a girl for a ride about all this shit she needed done.
