With all the automotive industry racing towards electric cars, how long will it be until electric hits off-roading trucks? I can see benefits and drawbacks, and price issues.... but will this marketplace be accepting of electric vehicles, regardless of their performance?
With electric, things like crawl control and traction control could be done much more precisely, and without the wear and tear on the brakes.

I doubt it happens in the next 5 years, but if companies like Tesla and Nikola can make electric hybrid Tractor Trailer rigs, and companies like Boeing and Airbus looking toward hybrid for the future... you would think it could be done for off-roading.
Is it just a matter of time?

I actually wouldnt mind an electric taco, instant torque. But just so that I could recharge it as fast as filling up a gas tank. Until then, Ill keep my petrol

Funny, I was just talking to a friend of mine the other day and I commented that my 2013 Tacoma is probably the last internal combustion vehicle I will have bought. Assuming I keep it another 10 years, the car/truck market will be quite different when it comes time to replace it.

but all that being said, I refuse to buy an automatic transmission...

And think of the electric off road rigs we may see in 10 years... abundant instant torque, individual wheel control, and possibly dramatic range if an array of efficient solar panels can charge the batteries while you're out there inching along. Could be really game-changing.

Perfect, run out of juice because you're taxing the motors, in the middle of nowhere. Then what, bring the charging station to the truck???

Agreed it's not smart for long term wheeling. I've heard Tesla owners say how they can drain a full charge in 15 minutes. I've seen a Tesla doing 30mph on a 75mph highway because it was in limp mode and about to run out of juice. No need for that on the trail.

no different than running out of gas because the driver doesn't take simple precautionary steps...

the hybrid idea isn't too bad... two motors is better than one I think.

but again, like someone already mentioned, make it so it charges as quick as it takes to pump 15 gallons!!!

You can bring a gas can to the out of gas truck....
You'll have to tow out the electric vehical, what about water crossings, just no for me, like never.

solar panel on the roof would probably help the charging on the move thing. might not be perfect, but no real solutions really are.

You can always do a solar, wind or wind up recharge on electric vehicle and in a few days, you might be unstuck... So no worries.

Sorry Boss, I'm stuck in the woods, but it's ok, my solar panel will have it charged by Thursday.

yea you and I can remember some spare fuel sure... but the tons of tards out there driving who get stranded is the mass group of people behind the wheel...

I am not saying you are wrong, I am with you man I will not give up my transmission and be told over night my toys are illegal.

But there are plenty of ways for motors to regenerate better than our gas cars it is just the simple truth.

there is a reason we have nuclear subs down in the deep seas!!!

my biggest gripe against the hybrids and electric cars is the fact all my senses are taken out of the equation, and that imho makes people inherently bad drivers..

I want and need to feel hear and smell my car when I drive.

I like the way my truck sounds. It isn't throaty or loudly obnoxious, but if you hear it you'll know it's a truck. I really wonder if an all electric truck will sound good, or make any attractive noise at all.

well considering that bmw has installed these fake sounds in the cabins of their gas engine cars, would not be too far fetched

They do better in water. No air intake to suck in water. The Tesla actually can float and drive in flood situations.

That's an interesting concept actually. How about suspension. Could it be possible to have an all electric suspension, where hydraulics, and gas doesn't exist.

Imagine making alignment adjustments electronically. You just program it all to spec.
