Two of my friends with 2011 FJ. They have the new (improved) engine and they are, both, telling me that- the engine is coming with synthetic and is required to change every 10k.
Now ,, we all know that the only difference is the addition of a second VVTI and nothing else.

It is up to you if you and what makes you feel good.
Personally,, with the supercharger I use -extended life fully synthetic- and change at 10k's.

The only way to really know is to get an oil sample analyzed after each oil change. I think for like $25 you can send some in to labs that do this sort of thing. After break-in, you can keep extending intervals until it's still within tolerance. Everyone will be different depending on how you use your truck and the environment it's run in. Of course you would have to be pretty anal to go through all this hassle and expense, but otherwise your just using someone elses opinion.

IMO, FWIW, I did a break-in change at 2k, next at 5k, and now I go 7.5k between, using synthetic. If that's not OK, well, I just don't care that much!

I try to change every 5000 miles, but have gone as far as 6000 miles. Depending if I forgot to order the oil or have it on hand.

should probably mention for any higher mileage tacos(160k+) out there if you've been running regular it's not a good idea to switch to synthetic you might see more oil leaks and burn more oil or start burning if you didn't before

Exactly. The oil is DIRTY. Dirt/sludge that the filter can't remove.
I change mine (Mobile 1) every 5k miles and its dark dark brown.
