How long would you let your truck idle?

Dropped my truck off at the A/C shop with a 1/4 tank of gas and when I came to pick it up the gas light was on. They had to leave the engine running with the A/C on to find and fix the problem.

It's also costly to the environment - needlessly burning fossil fuels just to get kids to sleep doesn't make sense. Just my two cents.

If I'm not actually driving my truck it doesn't idle unnecessarily.

I think he was serious and not joking but jbob is right. Won't cost anything to try it.

Also, I know you're carefull and not pull all the way in the garage, but around our door must be the pressure relief for our cab. Air flows freely through there.

If you're going to keep this practice of pulling in the garage and idling with kids in the vehicle, do them a favor and put a CO monitor in there to make sure you know what the level might be around them. I know you love them and care about them much so go this extra step for them.

I've let my Tacoma idle for a few hours during the winter occasionally. Granted, I didn't mean to, but it sure was warmer than the -55 degrees that it was outside.

Agreed that it won't hurt the vehicle so long as it's staying in operating temps. Hell, we idle our diesels all day long when it gets colder than -50.

You certainly are. I developed zinc fume fever by heating and bending EMT tubing with the two car garage door wide open. I would have never guessed I did not have enough ventilation.

Haha... I remember the days. Luckily for me they're a little older now. Truck rides work only on the way home from long days and little sleep (no nap).

I also let my truck idle more often since the little one has been born. Can't have mommy and daddy's little girl getting cold! :)

I have had my truck idle for a few hours. The work I do sometimes requires working on roads, then moving a bit, then more work. A lot of idling and a small amount of driving that can last all day. Can't sit in the car in the Phoenix heat without the a/c.

I comute 150-300 miles a DAY!! But stating jan 4th I won't have to commute at all... So my decrease in pollution will make up for him idling for a year or two... Without shutting his truck off once.
