I typically hear four or five cylinders go past TDC before my 2013 fires up. But, it starts every time and runs smooth.

My old Chevy Colorado 5 cyl would catch on the 1st cylinder that drew breath (not that I would ever want to go back).

Usually 3-4 but if it's really cold or if I stall it and start it again it's a bit more reluctant to turn over.

    How old is your battery?

I probably hear 3-5 cranks before a start if it sat all night

The battery is about 4 years old. It doesn't have any trouble cranking, it just cranks more than some other vehicles I've had before firing up.

Seems like my experience might be typical, then. I probably won't worry unless something changes.

I one time heard that Tacoma’s take longer to start so the oil pump can push oil through the engine before it actually starts. It’s almost like it’s programmed to miss a few cylinders before firing

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Mine has never not started but there are times when it feels like it cranks a little longer than it should.

I will say that I swapped out my OEM battery a few weeks ago for a Sam's club Duracell that supposedly has 800 cca and it spins the motor over significantly faster than the original battery. Kinda freaked me out the first time I turned the key.

There were a couple VWs I wired to read the oil pressure switch just for that reason.

Mine cranks just one more than I am "programmed" for, so I often have to take two tries to get started. Owned it for two years now, and I almost always have to take two tries... Oh well. Love that truck.

About the same here, 3 to 5 if my memory serves me correctly. I had a '77 Camaro back in the day that you only had to 'bump' the starter on, and it would fire right up. It had a 305 V8. What a POS that car was. Starting fast was about the only thing it did right.

Mine feels more like 6+ compression cycles, even on fresh plugs and a new battery, with immaculate compression measured on all cylinders.

I like this a lot more than my other cars that fire up immediately but then rattle like crazy until the oil makes its way to the lifters.

I'd call this a feature, not a bug. But yeah, sometimes I forget to hold the key forward long enough.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Immaculate compression... LOL, I am going to steal that.

It depends on if it's the first start of the day or not, if it's hot or cold etc etc. Sometimes its 3-4 other times its 4-5

I had a '79 Trans Am (with a 301:anonymous:) that would fire on the first cylinder every time. Taco usually takes 3-5. Once last winter it took two tries to get started -15F

OK maybe "immaculate" was an overstatement; I'm not sure if God actually helped, but it felt like it. All cylinders tested between 180-188 psi following a valve job and new head gaskets.
