Are you talking about the 1998-99 Mars Climate Orbiter which crashed on surface due to a metric-imperial mix-up? If so, that's yet another example of why we shouldn't even be trying to switch.

See, there you go. Another clue "on Mars", different gravity. It was probably some Canadian who forgot that kilogram is not a unit of weight.

OZ if a recipe calls for 16oz of something, does it need it by weight or by volume?

Depending on when they went to HS.

I graduated in '81 and the events were still the 440, 1/2, and mile.
    100 yard dash, 50 yard dash/sprint, etc...
Our only exposure to metric was every 2 years when the Olympics were on.

Ah, but they didn't switch to the two-year rotation until '94! Sorry, had to do it. :p

I remembered the summer and winter olympics, knew they were every 4 years, but I thought winter was 2 years apart from summer.

You're saying that the current rotation is every 2 years for both?

Edit: Never mind... just looked it up.

I had forgotten that the summer and winter games used to be the same year.

Yup. The sad part is it just hit me that there are TW members who weren't even amongst the living when they were both in the same year. Must be getting old...

There are licensed drivers on TW who were not alive when Bill Clinton was elected and when OJ murdered Nicole.

That's strange, isn't it? To them, the Cold War, the Red Scare/Menace, the Vietnam War, and the first Gulf War are all ancient history. Few are truly aware of how each of those still play into our current social and political affairs.
