Ever watch Pawn Stars on the History channel?

People can ask whatever price they want on the internet for anything. That doesn't necessary mean it will actually sell at that price or that it's worth that much.

I'm not above admitting I'm wrong. I'm a weather forecaster for a living. But it amazes me that everyone dismisses the fact that there is a demand and prices often reflect that for lifted trucks. Instead people are basing it on personal opinion or what they would do. Perhaps a majority of the replies are wrong/biased as well.

You must be right since a tv pawn show dictates truck market prices or holds any similarities.

I think we are all trying to say that there really isn't as much of a demand for lifted, used trucks as there is for a clean stock one. People overprice them, they sit on them for a couple months, then they end up discounting them to stock (or below) values.

EDIT: I just want to add that while there are certainly exceptions and sometimes a highly specialized truck will find that highly specialized buyer, my thoughts are on the market in general.

I would agree or think it may even be higher, especially since lifts provide many disadvantages off road and only a few minor advantages like mid truck clearance for these long wheel based pigs.

I wonder how many people think they needed their lift to fit their tires?

or how many don't realize their lifted truck drives worse than a stock truck offroad?

My point was that anyone can ask any price they want on the interent in the hopes that an uniformed buyer will overpay, but that doesn't mean it's actually worth that much or that it will even sell anywhere near that price. What you need to do is compare real world sale prices of lifted vs non lifted trucks to make your case. Comparing "asking" prices from an internet forum is not the same as comparing actual "sold" prices. And even if a truck does sell higher with a lift, if it sits on sale for a very long time before that happens then you have to consider the cost of holding the truck for so long as well, after all time is money right.

I referenced Pawn Stars because they always get people on that show trying to sell them an item and referencing some outrageous Ebay asking price trying to put a "real world" value on their item, when in reality the last three known sales or auction prices for a similar item have been significantly lower or even half the asking price in a lot of their cases.

Nobody is ACTUALLY paying a premium for heavily modified used vehicle.

Dealers are slapping lifts on new trucks and getting more for them. I blame the country music industry.

Nothing better than songs about jacked up trucks, dirt roads, and pretty women in my opinion!

    - In this brand new Chevy with a lift kit, would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it.

    - You know Tommy gonna trick his truck, jack it up big time, lift kit, chrome tips, spit shinin like a diamond. Game changed and the rain came and we took it down a back road. Georgia clay mud hole, that's how these boys roll.

    - So get a grip, take a sip of that feelright. The trucks jacked up, flatbed's flipped back. Yeah, you can find us where the party's at.

    - Oh baby you can find me in the back of a jacked up tailgate. Sittin round watching all these pretty things. Get down in that Georgia clay.

    - I'm turning off of real life drive and that's right, I'm hittin easy street on mud tires.

    - She's a hot little number in her pick-up truck. Daddy's sweet money done jacked it up. She's a party all nighter from south carolina, a bad mamajamma from down in Alabama. She's a raging cajun, a lunatic from Brunswick, juicy Georgia peach. With a thick southern drawl, sexy swing and walk, bother she's all country, from her cowboy boots to her down home roots!

    Clazzio seat covers,

Correct me if I'm wrong ... the tires on my OR are 265s ... the SR5 has 245s? Is the right?

Also ... do the SR5 have the same fiberglass wheel well trim that the OR has ... because as far as cabs / beds go they are the same size.

So if anything it's the tire width that may make it appear more aggressive ...

Yes, same body, just different size wheels between SR5 and TRD.

The tires on a non pre-runner SR5 are definitely smaller, not sure of the exact size. This would be one reason. However, they also don't have the Bilstein shocks that come on TRD models, which does provide a small lift over trucks with the non Bilstein shocks I think. I think the combination of the two is what makes the TRD models appear much more aggressive.

Doesn't a non pre-runner SR5 have different shocks and coils also, compared to the TRD Bilstein shocks?

TRD's look more aggressive because they have slightly larger tires. (Width and diameter). TRD Offroad has A/T tires with more aggressive thread which adds to the look as well. Fender flares etc are the same between TRD, SR5 and base trucks that are 6 lug, prerunner or 4x4.

265/70/16 and 265/65/17 for TRD vs 245/75/16 for SR5 6 lug, preruner or 4x4. (Base fender flares are not color matched)

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php?tires=245-75r16-265-70r16

5 lug SR5 or base have smaller 15" wheels and tires and do not have fender flares.
