The bed mat is a must add on. It keeps things from sliding around. It protect the bed from scratches and above all it keeps meteorites from burning holes in the plastic bed.

I have one and it made a big difference keeping heavy items anchored in the bed. Mine is an aftermarket I had to trim to fit. Don't remember the brand or even where I got it. It came sized to fit a long bed and I have the superior  short bed.

OEM is definitely the way to go. Perfect fit, keeps things from sliding, protects the bed - win win win.

Aren't you guys afraid of someone just stealing it? Or is there a way to secure the bed mat? I want to purchase one but I park the Taco outside and afraid it might get stolen!

Initially I was worried about this, now I don't even think about it. There is a simple bed mat mod- check it out on page 1 of second gen tips and mods.

Some good ideas here. I bought a couple of packages of those interlocking mats from Wally World and trimmed them to fit. They seem to work pretty well, tho they aren't a rugged a a rubber mat. They are about 3/4 shit ton lighter. :)

Picked up my buddy last season at his house. I was helping him load all his decoys, blind bag, shotgun, etc in the back. It was 3 am and I was driving our old '98 Tacoma with a topper on it.

All finished, we hop in and I'm driving on I30 in Dallas and it had been raining pretty good. There was a wreck and traffic was stopped. I crested a hill and it was all brake lights. Apply the brakes in a smooth and controlled manner and immediately start hydroplaning across three lanes. The truck looked like a downhill skier. Luckily, I got it under control and we stopped before causing another wreck or hitting anything.

We are trying to fix the seats our butts made Mohawks out of during the near-accident and someone next to us is honking to get our attention. They are screaming that my tailgate is down. We both think, "all our hunting gear is all over the interstate, including our guns, being run over."

He hops out to look and close the gate. Hops back in and says nothing is missing. I pull over so we can take a better look.

No shit, nothing fell out. It was because my wife left two yoga mats back there for my dog to be comfortable the last time he rode back there.

I'll never go without a rubber mat of some sort in the bed again.
