    another one of these threads?

my old truck was a 4cyl and the only shit i got from 6 cyl truck owners (mostly ford ranger guys) was jealousy due to better mileage ... sure there was the occasional jab about not having 4wd but i dont need it and the jabs went both ways cause i was jealous of the power and towing capacity their trucks had

hence where i am today with my current v6 truck which get ever so slight worse mileage than the old one, but only if i go over 70 or so ... otherwise they get the same

Some I4s are a joke-IMO the Toyota I4 is not. It's all about utility and durability, not winning races. You have to put the idea of the I4 in this truck in perspective. The old stovebolt I6 in the 50s Chevy trucks is not unlike this motor. The 2.7 is a frikkin tank of a 4 banger and will move the approx.4000lb truck along quite adequately..the avg. person out there would have no clue there's only a 4 banger moving that DC Tacoma but Toyota has for years been a stellar outfitter of 4 cylinder trucks and they have been very good to their owners. Anyone who says the 4 cylinder Tacoma is a joke, is fooling himself. Yeah it may not have the power of the 6 but it is just as formideable and damn near as able while handing back MPGs to boot.

I have the V6, but agree with Frank on this one. Toyota's I4 is a good engine.

my other half is obsessed with getting a taco now. Normally I would support it but I use mine for work and she has at most, a 5 mi commute to work.

Mine is as plain jane as you can get even though I do drive offroad quite a bit and do carry crap around like tree stumps, bikes, mulch, sod, etc.

and she's wanting the v6 4x4 with the TRD for a 5-mile all paved commute...total mall queen truck.

She's driving a civic now and hates it. I dont blame her but its a good little practical car. She's getting 500 or so miles on the tank and spending $45 to fill it. Im trying to explain to her that she's going to be lucky to get 300 miles to a $80 tank. If anything, i am giving her crap about it.

Nah, sad is people who think their vehicle is king shit of all vehicles, regardless of what it is or how many cylinders it has. Just for the record..........there are lots of other 4 cylinder vehicles that suck way more than a 4 cyl Tacoma, but not just because they only have 4 cylinders. There are also 1 & 2 cylinder vehicles that kick ass.......in the form of a motorcycle. A 1 cyl motorcycle can go lots of places that an 8 cyl truck can't go, on or offroad so these cylinder count king of the hill debates are so pointless.

    Looking!
What is this thing you call a V6? Does not compute.

This is our fourth Toyota pickup, second Tacoma, all four bangers. First and current are autos, two in between 5-speed manuals. Between the four of them, there is more than 400,000 miles, mostly trouble free. Got 13,000 on our current one.

What about the 1.6 liter cars? They're smaller than the tacos.

I needed the v6...depends on your lifestyle..what are you doing with it...or also how much you can afford to spend..I'm blessed to be able to be able to buy one that has everything and not have to worry about the price of fuel..do it depends on your situation...if I had to get the 4 cyl. I would have..just cause you have something and someone else doesn't theres no need to "make fun of them"

I had the V6 in my '99 Taco. My '10 has the I4. Wouldn't trade the I4 for nothing. The V6 had too much power for what I wanted to do with it. No reason to be the first one to the next red light. You want something fast, get a sports car. Now, if you have a large trailer and need the V6 that's a different story. Then again if I had a large trailer I wouldn't be towing it with a Tacoma. Probably a Tundra.
