I've owned everything from mega-torque V8 turbo diesels in 3/4 ton trucks, to hipo V8s in performance cars to bland V6s & I4s in all sorts of pedestrian vehicles and I will soon be buying a Toyota I4 in a Tacoma. No real need for ultimate speed & performance (get real V6 guys... it's not that fast by comparison to really fast engines)... what I want is low cost, low maint, highest MPG available, simplicity of design, and durability... Toyota built their reputation on their I4 engines which offer all of these traits. That's what I am after.

If I wanted power, performance, or towing capacity, honestly, I wouldn't even be looking at a Tacoma in the first place... again the 4.0L is respectable, but it's not really all that great by comparison to what else is available on the market (even within the Toyota brand)... there are better options if those are your parameters.

Not bagging on the V6... there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not outstanding in any way really. That said... for those who want/need a V6 that's cool... it no doubt serves your purpose(s)... but for those that have different needs the old workhorse I4 is a great option.

Never much understood the "my engine is better than your engine" when not comparing apples to apples, ie, comparing one V6 to another or one V8 to another or one I4 to another... okay, but comparing two engines that were designed for two totally different purposes... just illogical. :)

But I guess people seem to like pissing contests for one reason or another... even if the results of the contest mean nothing..... :)

Got shit yesterday coming back from the lake crawling up this big ass hill. My friend starts talking about his big lifted V8 Chevy how it would be flying up this hill sooo i drop into a lower gear and fly up the hill and I turn to him and say why don't you drive next time. Oh wait your big ass Chevy has been in the shop for two weeks cause it's a piece of shit..... Shut up. Also may I add his truck is way newer than mine and way less miles..... and it crapped out on him.

I had a V6 4x4 truck before and traded in for a 4x2 4 cylinder because it better fit my needs. I travel a lot of highway miles for work and opted for an access cab to store all my equipment. Its just the wife and me so didn't really need a double cab. It doesn't snow much here and I keep my truck on the road so 4x4 was not a necessity. The only thing I ever occasionally need to to tow is a rented flat bed trailer to haul some lumber.

My father-in-law has a bad ass V8 tundra that he hauls a 29 foot travel trailer with. If I ever needed a truck to haul anything over 3500 pounds I would skip the V6 Tacoma and go strait to the V8 Tundra. Bottom line is Toyota makes great trucks period, and they make a truck for just about everyone's specific needs short of an HD diesel.

Well put sir, i did the same thing as you. We all drive tacoma's here who the fuck cares if it's 4x4, 4x2, double/single/ or access cab. if you feel the need to put someone down to make yourself feel superior, grow the fuck up !

I really don't see any reason for a V-6 guy to give shit, when all of us get shit at some point for driving a "toy" truck. I've already gotten shit on my V-6 within the first month or 2 as I used to have a Hemi Ram. So many think I'm nuts for trading.
