First, there's no such thing as a Tacoma valet key, and there cannot be, for the simple reason that the glovebox is not keyed differently from the door.

Secondly, the valet key can be a complete joke, depending on the vehicle. My previous experience with a valet key was in my wife's 2011 Corolla Sport. It came with two RKE keys and a valet key. The valet key was a non-RKE transponder key. The only difference from the regular keys, physically, was that the tip was a little narrower for about 1/8" back from the end. But this car did not have a locking glovebox! It's true that the valet key would not open the trunk, but the trunk could be opened by pulling the release lever on the floor beside the driver's seat! So all this was, in practice, was a "spare key" and not a "valet key." Exactly like the spare non-RKE keys I had made for my Tacoma.

2021 MT i got 1 key with integrated FOB and one plain key that starts the car but not buttons, they still owe me 1 key tried calling toyota and they just send me back to the dealership that knows nothing other than they have to wait until toyota sends the notice.

IDK if its just me but i have a feeling they will try to brush everyone off that only got 1 key and hope they forget about it.

A manual transmission Tacoma cannot have a "fob," if by "fob" we mean the electronic gizmo that allows the pushbutton ignition to work. (Manual transmission trucks do not have pushbutton start.) What you mean is a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key. Let's be clear on our terminology.

I got two fobs and one key. I remember when the guy handed them over, i was like WTH you only get one key now!? to him. Then I remembered last time I bought a truck was in 07 when the 2nd gen tundra came out. Forgot about about that push start button on the taco, and keys in fob. Looked stupid for a few seconds there lol.

Might I ask how you know that the glove box is not keyed differently from the door snd the source of that information? Thanks.

Okay, I called Toyota corp... Escalated to a senior Rep named John. Still no ETA for delivering the 2nd fob or any new information. He also confirmed that new Tacomas are shipping with both fobs and dealers seem to have inventory for customers to purchase keys from the parts department. So it does seem the only shortage is for those of us that purchased a truck that was delivered ~March. Unfortunately based on this conversation, Toyota isn't making their existing customers a priority and after 3 months they don't even have an update.

At this point we can only start to question whether or not Toyota is going to make good on their word and ship out the second fob.

I bought my Taco in March and am still awaiting a second RKE key as well. Checked at the dealership today and they said it could be another couple of months. So I'm thinking maybe by August 2021. I guess we'll see.

I read this post earlier and forgot to post up. Bought a Limited Nightshade (in Wind Chill Pearl ) and received two FOBs per the usual. Order date was March 21, truck was delivered on June 10, 2021. Was glad, actually, after reading this thread, I thought I'd only receive one.
