How many keys did you get?

I received 2 smart fobs and a tailgate key.

 

can you post the "tailgate key" photo

My smart fobs have the two little metal keys in it. But its hard to slide it in the tailgate to open it - you have to hold it with your finger.

Not an issue now that I have the OEM tailgate remote lock, but I still would like to see what a '2021 tailgate key' looks like

 

I call it the tailgate key.

 

But I just ordered the remote lock doo hickie thing for it. So. I will have to rename it I guess.

 

I picked up my 2021 AT TRD Offroad March 1st and received 2 fobs and one tailgate key.

 

I'm in the same boat. Did you receive your 2nd remote key from Toyota? If so, how long did it take for you to receive it?

2021 , 2 Turn keys

 

Just got a 2021, also got one key fob and one valet. I was told to hang tight and I’d get a second fob soon. Chip shortage.

 

Are you sure the key you got is a valet, or just one without wireless capability? A valet key can unlock the doors and start the engine, but NOT open the glove compartment.

 

The whole "valet key" discussion, in reference to the Tacoma, presupposes that the lock cylinder for the glove box is different from the door lock cylinder. That's the case for my wife's 2011 Corolla, for example, but I'm not sure that's the case for the Tacoma.

When it comes to obtaining spare keys, price and availability are all-important factors. Obviously, an "H" key with full remote capability would be the most expensive and the hardest to get. But how much cheaper would one without remote capability be? Can I get one, say, for $100? I can go to my local locksmith and get a mechanical key cut for $10, but all it will do is open the door.

 

I bought used, only got 1 key. I bought this from Ebay and had the local locksmith cut and program.

I paid $35 for the key and 55 for cut and program. For those not wanting to wait for Toyota.

I just took delivery of my 2021 Trd Sport 2 weeks ago and it came with 2 key fobs and a valet key

 

Just got a 21 OR 6MT 3 weeks ago. Received 1 H smart key, and 1 dumb key, with an IOU tag (saying I was owed a second H smart key). I was told the dumb key opens locks but won’t start the engine (so not really a Valet key). I got a $35 H smart key off eBay and paid $70 to cut and program and it works perfectly. Still haven’t redeemed the IOU for the second factory H smart key.

 

21 Pro came with two fobs and the regular key.
