How many keys did you get?

2020 SR. All I got was 2 Fobs. Called the dealership I purchased the truck from and my salesperson told me that’s all I get. I wanted a third ‘valet’ key just to hide on the truck for emergencies. Called the dealership I have a better relationship with(I’ve bought my other Toyotas from them, but when I was looking for a Taco they had none I liked). They were VERY helpful and offered me a factory spare(at half off), cut for free, and programmed it immediately.

In less than an hour I got a programmed spare for less than $90 OTD! I tested it out on the doors, ignition, and glovebox. Opened/started all 3 so I guess it’s not technically a ‘valet’ key, but who cares? I’ve never needed a valet before and all I keep in my glovebox is cold-weather emergency gear.

 

2019. 2 keys. Haven’t checked for a valet key. Probably in the glove compartment? I’d have to look.

 

How many of you are valet parking with treasures hid in the glove box that you are worried about a valet key ? I got 2 fobs , a tailgate key and I'm not even sure if my glove box has a lock .

 

Valet parking? Lol. The only person that drives my truck besides me is the service attendant at Toyota when I drop it off for a service.

I’d never let anyone drive my truck. Period.

True, but as i was saying i just wanted a key that i could start the truck with in case something happened to my Fob key. I figure it's not so bad to lose a $90 key if it falls off the underside of the truck as it would be a $300 key. I have a second Fob key, but that will be for my daughter who is now driving-age. I feel safer with her in a taller vehicle with all the Toyota-nanny safety features while she is learning. I'm not looking forward to the insurance, however.

 

Yup, same here. 2021 TRD OR got it three weeks ago and only one fob and valet key.

The dealer did have a flyer regarding the matter for specific Tacomas built between January - March 2021 will only get one fob and that Toyota will contact the owner once the second fob is available. Hope I get mine soon too.

 

I picked up my 2021 sport 4x4 3 months ago lucky for me they had my truck there, I was told because of the chip shortage
that Toyota will be only giving one key per truck real soon .

picked up my 2021 trd off road last week. It came with 2 fob's (with integrated key) and 1 regular key

 

I bought my 6MT Pro in December 2020. It was certified so they actually had the second key made the day I flew out to San Antonio to pick it up.

This thread is driving me crazy! What do you mean by "fob"?! Is it a "Smart Key" (pushbutton start), or is it a remote control "H" key? Until this is clarified, the answers here are worthless.

(Normally, a "fob" is thought of as a "Smart Key" that you don't insert into the ignition.)

The next question is what is the secondary key ("tailgate" key, "valet" key, etc.)? Does this key have a transponder (so that it runs the engine) or not? Is it a purely mechanical key? Again, please clarify.

I can tell you that with my new Tacoma, I got two remote control "H" keys and no secondary key. I didn't get any "fobs" because I don't have a pushbutton start.

 

My coworker got a high school son a leased taco and Toyota only gave them one key for now due to the chip shortage.
