How many keys did you get?

I could not agree more. I believe that 100% of the parties posting in this thread saying that they received a valet key, are really talking about a transponder key which runs the engine and opens everything, including the glove box. This excludes those parties that received a tailgate key in addition to their smart keys which only opens the tailgate, but I believe Toyota has not supplied those in a few years. I am looking for a true valet key, which would be a transponder key that does NOT open the glove box. If anyone has succeeded in purchasing one of those for a 2020 - 2021 MY I would appreciate getting the part number. And for the record, for my 2021 TRD OR DCSB 6MT I received two "H" keys only.

 

For a replacement or spare key, I would be happy with a plain transponder key, if the passenger door had a keyhole. Remote Keyless Entry was not high on my list of priorities.

This is one area in which my 2000 Ford Ranger, with its plain PATS transponder key and lock cylinders in both doors, is superior.

 

Only got one remote key and one valet key. I was kinda heated once I realized I had been short changed. I purchased a 2021 tacoma a few months ago. Other than the key situation i really love this truck

 

Total opposite of me. Got 2 remotes FOBS, for my Smart Key equipped 2021. No Valet key. SIGH.

 

Bought my Taco end of March with one remote key and a manual key. There is a tag attached to the spare saying do not remove this tag, you will be contacted by the dealer when it becomes available. Hope this helps.

 

I got a electronic key, one with unlock and lock, and a basic key, it is just literally a key. The dealer said Toyota would send me another electronic key.

 

Had a conversation over the weekend with a friend who just ordered a new Bronco. Said that Fords are also only coming with one key fob now (with the promise to send a second one when available) and that they are also blaming the chip shortage.

So it definitely isn't just Tacomas.

 

My 2021 Sport came with two Remote Keyless Entry keys. I went to the dealer today and got two spare transponder keys (non-remote), Toyota part no. 89785-0D170. Total cost, including programming, was $213.67 OTD.

 

If you buy a used Vehicle don’t they usually come with one key from original owners not giving up the second key ...lol sucks they only give you one key with a brand new purchase and give the old iou lol

I bought my Tacoma used a year old and it still had 2 keys. I dont see why the dealer couldn't get you a second key.

 

Jeep is handing out 1 key fob only currently as well. So not just Toyota, shortages are real.

When I went to my dealer last week to have extra keys made, they had plenty of keys in stock, both plain transponder keys and remote keyless entry keys. This doesn't square with there being a shortage of keys for new trucks. What, then, is going on? Could it come down to Toyota trying to chisel a little more money?
