It's you rear main. Mine started to leak at about 100K. I replaced it at 290K.

Absolutely don't mess with it. Even though it's a Toyota, GM says that if your tranny has over 100k the fluid has developed a certain wear pattern and once you flush that oil and put the new stuff in it'll throw off that wear pattern. I'd probably leave it unless you plan on rebuilding the transmission. I've known way too many horror stories about people changing their transmission fluid after 100k and then having to look for another one.

You sure you have correct info? Sounds like bullshit to me. Fluids developing a "wear pattern" Maybe you're mixing up things like tapered roller bearings with trans fluid? Fluids break down and lose their film strength over time. The additives also break down over time and slowly stop doing there job.

I'd change it without a doubt. If the trans is on it's last legs and the friction materials are worn though, then yes, putting new properly functioning slippery atf in may make steel on steel slip against one another because there's no more friction material left and the old fluid worked so poorly that it allowed the steel on steel to not slip, but that's a different animal.

I wasn't sure about the wear pattern statement either. What I have heard, though, is that new fluid can have somewhat of a 'detergent' effect and possibly dislodge some gunk that could give you trouble. This gunk is typically left undisturbed by the old fluid which has lost it's cleaning properties.

I have no source on that info though.

Here's a source...maybe not a good one...but they are describing in more techical terms what I was referring to:

When the fluid is burnt up and dirty, by replacing the fluid with fresh fluid full of detergent and cleaners, the debris becomes dislodged and naturally finds its way to the control mechanism called the valve body. The other thing that happens is the new fluid with detergent can loosen the glue that holds the clutch plates and band material that holds them to their backing plates. The goal here is to flush the transmission BEFORE the fluid gets damaged. If you have the insight to keep the fluid changed then the fluid will never change color or become burnt, which is why a strict maintenance schedule needs to be implemented and followed.

Confirms what I said. Do it before it gets bad. Once it's badly burnt the damage has been done and you're already screwed.
