179,000- one starter, 2 batteries...and I think the power steering pump went out yesterday.
Question- when I bought the truck somebody had written on the air box that the timing belt was done at 125,000. Now I don't really know that it was since I got it after the fact. When should I look into redoing it. Is this one of those....If it ain't broke don't fix it things?

I just bought a 97 and the previous owner said he had it done already, although that may be the case I went ahead and did it again, I'm a mechanic for a living so it was no big deal, but now I know it's been done for sure and done right. I don't really care for after makers parts on my motors.

No. Timing belts need to be changed every 100k miles along, not required but highly highly recommend it, with the water pump, hoses, anti-freeze, etc because you have to remove all that junk to change the belt so you may as well pay the labor once and replace everything while you've got it all out. Why pay for labor twice?

230,000 98,4wd, auto v6, king cab, sr5 trd....bought new, 4 trip to Ca from FL plus lots of off road job site miles. On 3rd timing belt, new water pump, new ac blower, new top end gasket..everythng works, top of roof rusted like no other Tacoma I have ever seen, applied speedliner to slow it down, came back through in two years, needs a new roof skin some day.
