I'm averaging 380 miles a tank. I fill up at the first, best priced station I come across once the light comes on. This usually takes 17-18 gallons, meaning I must have 3-4 gallons reserve. I am averaging 21.6 mpg combined, but one tank yielded 24.3 mpg after 387 miles of mostly highway. I just changed to AMS 5W20 XL synthetic and am already noticing better mileage. 90 miles driven and yet to pass the first quarter mark. I just passed 5000 miles on the odometer. I plan on removing the secondary after a couple tanks and then getting the AFE drop-in a couple tanks after that. I hope to see mid to high 20s on my highway trips.

I don't know how some of you are calculating you mileage? When you say you are going 360-380 miles on a tank with a few gallons left in the tank
    you are getting 17-19 mpg.

I normally use about 18 gallons to get to about 380 miles. That's 21 mpg.

Just got my X-Runner last week, came with a full tank. Got 310 miles until the gas light came on. Filled up to first pump cut-off, and it was 17.4 Gallons. Around 17mpg. I live in an Austin, TX suburb (Lakeway) and my drive to work is about 18 miles one-way on two 60mph roads. Since its an X-Runner, its obviously the V6...

There's really only one sure way to accurately calculate your gas economy.

    1. Top off the tank until you can't get anymore into it.

    2. Drive a LONG trip, or until the gas light comes on.

    3. Top off the tank again until you can't get anymore into it. Take miles on the odometer and divide by gallons filled on the pump.

Yeah, this is how I do it. Or monitor flow rate in gpm at the injector to know true fuel usage and have a tachometer that knows your exact tire circumference, which would be a dr value since you are constantly decreasing your tread, you would need a laser position transducer to do this. Yeah that gets complicated...

Filled up last night... 19.2 gallons to go 353 miles, or 18.4 mpg. I'm by no means driving with a heavy foot, and this is about normal for me so far with my '09. Kinda makes me wish that I had bought an automatic. I did just do my first oil change last weekend, and switched to Mobile One, so I'm hoping that will help a little.

I've been using my friend's Scanguage for the last month, and figured out that if I take the highway home from work instead of the Interstate, I can get about 25mpg on the trip home (slightly downhill). Only problem being that I'm getting about 16mpg on the way to work (uphill), and have to use the Interstate because I'm not leaving the house early enough.

400 driving like I have no where to be, coasting to lights with it in gear to get the fuel cutoff, coasting down hills, being super anal about tire pressure, keeping truck clean to reduce drag, and reducing unnecessary weight <------------that one includes me losing weight since I became a fatty and no longer wish to be one. down to 182 from 195

You guys with V6's and 4x4's are gonna struggle with gas economy no matter what. It's just the way it is.

The biggest help you guys can do for yourself is drive 55 - 60 for the reduction in wind drag and keep excess weight out of the vehicle.

    Shifting @ 2,000 rpm's helps too.

My gas light just came w/ 350 miles on the tank, I drove mix of city/ highway and country roads. I put the truck in Neutral to coast to stop sign and red lights and drive 55-60, yes I know grandpa. At red lights I shut the truck off to help more and also I roll through stop signs so I don't have to start from a dead stop. I love cruising behind a fast big rig or bus. I also let truck shift before 2k rpm normally at 15-18k rpm.

Specs: 08 Auto, DB Cab, LongBed, 275/70/17's, 3" lift.

I go about 340 -360 with 2-3 gallons left in the 21 gal tank that i can't seem to empty. doesn't matter how long i drive with the fuel light on most i have ever pump in was 19 1/2 gallons. Best mileage was 438mi and still only put 19 1/2 in. I had a o6 acces cab trd and best mileage i had with that was about 19mpg but still could only fit 19 gal or so in it.

Same here. My 4cyl get 450ish before the light comes on, but you would think we had a 17ish gallon tank.

On the other hand, I ran one time 80+miles with the light on (Debit card wouldnt work!%&) one night coming home, and the sucker didnt run out of gas.

You can get to the bottom of the "E" and still be ok (for a short time :D).

Just checked it today. I get 290 miles with 5 gallons left in the tank. Not to bad considering I use a heavy foot occasionally.
