I have 70k on my Tacoma, I just replaced the front disc pads. They were worn but not gone. Do you replace the rears at the same time or do you get more miles out of them?

The rear shoes general last much longer than the front pads.

I have 110000 on my 2014 DC trd off road and still have the original brakes on it, 6mm to the good on the front.

I did front and rears without looking at them first at around 100,000 miles. They still had plenty of life left. So much so, that I took my palm sander with some Emery cloth to the rotors and cleaned them up a bit. I had no throbbing brake pedal, so I know the rotors weren't warped.
Got 125,000 on the next set, still no throbbing brake pedal but I changed the rotors anyway.

I usually drive my Tacoma 20-30 miles, take a break, then drive some more

you can but you'd be wasting your money. Typically rears will last 2X's longer or more than fronts.

rears are fine with 183k miles on them
Did front pads and rotors a few years ago
the rears only do about 15% of the braking unless you tow a lot

General rule of thumb Rears every other front pad replacement. Fronts generally (under average driving) should last to at least 100K.

Man that just amazes me the life you get out of these Tacoma brakes. I don't get anywhere near 100k on pads and rotors on my other rigs. Really well designed brake system.

I replaced my fronts at 83000 miles. I tow my boat a lot and that’s why I didn’t get more miles out of them. The rear brakes were just fine.
I wondering why you only got 70,000 out of yours. Do you tow something or do a lot of city driving or ??

Why do the brakes last so long? I have 76k on my Tacoma and they look great. My wife's Jeep Liberty just turned 100k and I've replaced all of the pads 3 times now and the rotors twice. The Jeep manual even says to change pads every 32k. I've never had a vehicle go so long on its original brakes. Curious what the Toyota secret is?

Yea I am curious to, I had a 93 I just sold I bought brand new and I didn't change the front brake pads until 160k! Had 250k when I sold it and just had the rear drums inspected and they did not need replacing.

i drove a couple hundred miles the last time my taco started showing signs of breakage. break downs always add a sense of adventure to a road trip.

Does she ride around with her foot on the brake pedal?

My last truck was 20 years old and still had the original pads and clutch disk when I sold it. It was an Isuzu PUP.

I replaced mine at 150k with Duralast pads and rotors. At 160k the rotors were warped. Autozone replaced them for free and I upgraded to their premium rotor. 12k later and the rotors are warped again. I've read in other threads there are people who are having similar problems. Any idea what's causing them to warp so quickly? I have a manual, so I'm easy on the brakes. I follow the sequence and torque specs on the lug nuts, so everything should be straight.

Just replaced my fronts at 91k miles. Pads were done and the rotors were warped. Backs are great though.

Should note I've hauled a couple trailers across the country with the taco and its seen a ton of steep mountain roads along with some extremely quick stops avoiding Elk/Moose/Deer over the years.
