Neighbor across cul de sac with same 3 car garage like we have didn't think that thru when buying his nice new Tundra. Saw them trying to fit it in all the spots to no avail so alas, his nice new 50k truck sits out in driveway. It's hilarious because they were acting all douchey about it like they were king of the village and no one else could afford one and them out there trying to figure out why it wouldn't fit was priceless. Guess they need the double deep garage floor plan. Maybe they'll move.

I'm planning of building a garage so it can be any size within cost constraints. It seems that 20' to 22' is enough for the truck, but if a work 3' work bench is going on the back wall, leaving room for standing at the bench with the truck inside the garage, it would need to be about 28'. Can anyone confirm this?

How wide does the garage need to be to be able to open both doors all the way with some clearance for walking around the truck? I have a 2009 extra cab.

My 31x30 attached garage is what sold me on my house about 2 years ago so, yes, my Tacoma is in the garage if I am at home.

Every place I had ever lived had a garage that I could park my trucks in except the one I am in now.
So for 4 years everything lived outside.
Got tired of rats eating my truck and my wife's car so we built a garage.

That's a nice garage, but you're wasting it by using it to store cars.

    How so?

My wife shot down the ideas of turning it into a brothel or dog fighting ring for under 10lb dogs so cars it is.

i just re-arranged my garage this weekend to fit my wife's CX-9 into our garage along with my DCLB that's been in there since we owned the place

with the DCLB i come right up to the doorway to the house, leaving about 5-6" in front of the truck puts me at 28-32" behind it, which is enough to walk around. Or conversely i park up to my tennis ball on the string which allows me the reverse front and back

to get the CX-9 in with room for its absolutely massive doors i had to move my 18" shelving on the leftside to the right, but it works and everything fits good. You'll note i have a ~4' knockout on the rightside which is where my hot water/furnace go in the bottom right and chimney on the right. Provides enough room to have double-deep 18" shelving and still have enough room to open the front and rear driver side doors on my truck with room to spare for the CX-9 for its doors to open

next step is to build a workbench on wheels i can put in front of the space occupied between the CX-9/taco which will allow me to roll it out, use the vice with more room, etc.

last house we had was an attached garage, but it was a converted car port which didnt have a door between the main house and garage. I love having that now, especially in oregon where there's always some moisture falling from the sky.

I just re-measured my depth and actual depth from drywall in the bottom to concrete at the top is 21'5", so be aware of that.

My vehicles go in the garage. It is a requirement. It makes a huge difference to the life of the vehicle.

Man my two car garage is a work shop. Full of tools and machines, lawnmowers, kid's bikes and projects (and mess). It hailed once and I managed to squeak it in but almost had to get out "Dukes of Hazzard" style. So outside it sits in the driveway. At least it's always in shade.

Had to do some rearranging when I got my Taco a few weeks ago but it fits along with my wife's CRV. Hoping to get a yard barn this year to get the mower and other lawn equipment out of the garage to add a little more room.

    Damn, you caught me.
Those red boxes behind my truck are empty, they are just for show as is the welder, engine hoist, plasma cutter, drill press etc.

    Like, so many.
Very few homes in my neighborhood have garages so I feel really lucky to have one. It's tight, but I can fit both cars in there and still have a little bit of storage/work space. No way would a full size truck or SUV fit though.

The truck fits in a 21’ space but the tailgate won’t come down.

For garages, a good rule of thumb is 4’ spacing between objects and the vehicle. So you want 4’ from the bench to truck, and 4’ from side wall and any shelving/etc to truck door. Same on the other side.

If you are only parking one vehicle in a 2-car space, you can turn the second space into a workshop/storage space with great spacing to the sides and back of the garage for the parked vehicle.
