How many of you have rock chips on your truck?

ya I’m researching now, would love GA, TN but they don’t pay their nurses as well, leaning towards AZ again

 

Noble profession....you’re worth every penny and more! AZ is not bad except for the heat unless you’re up by Flagstaff, but it’s beautiful.

 

I've got a couple, actually on my list of things to do this weekend, bought some toyota authentic paint pens online. I'll post some pics once done

 

Not quite there yet, 6 months and I'll have my 2nd degree / BSN. Spent 5 years of my time Active Duty in AZ, love the cost of living, 365 sunshine, plenty of places to ride, but the heat is brutal those 6 months of the year.

 

An a vet to boot! Man, you’re ticking all my respect boxes! Military man myself, USN F14/18 pilot, son was in the Navy as well, my Dad, Army for 33 years. Seen all sorts of “action”.

One thing is for sure, you have the drive to succeed and therefore you will!

 

I have a couple small ones on the hood area from typical road carnage. I'll just hit it with a touch up pen at some point. They are super small.

Briefed plenty of pilots during my time in I'm sure you've seen more than me, did a few overseas in some not so great places but nothing too bad. Brother just graduated basic a few weeks ago and is chilling at Lackland for SF tech school (tried my hardest to have him pick another careerfield, lol). Appreciate the words of encouragement. Previous car was a ‘14 Shelby that was “kept in a bubble”. Barely drove it, kept miles off. Never saving “my girl” for the next guy to ravage. I bang my Tacoma as much as I can every day.

Never heard of that Simonize stuff, ive heard of ceramic pro and ceramic other ceramic coatings but not Simonize.

I was referring to saving money by only having to take it to get detailed once a year which usually runs about $200-$300 per detail instead of taking it every 4 months which would be 3 details a year, thats how you would save money by having paint protection film. If your a person that worries about the condition of the paint it saves trips to the body shop too.

I agree with you on some points like emptying the wallet to try to keep the truck in perfect condition while its exposed to the elements, other drivers, careless people, etc being a bad idea and not being able to keep it in a protective bubble. Its just annoying to pay $35k-36k for a truck and already have two rock chips on the first month without driving it anywhere except home from the dealership. I plan to keep my Tacoma until the wheels fall off *knock on wood* so I want to take care of it and keep it looking nice, I know that eventually it will get damaged from the environment and other drivers but I want to keep it looking new as long as possible after spending so much money to buy it.

 

Paint chips and door dings. Two of my biggest pet peeves of automobile ownership. There is no 100% solution to the problem other than not driving the vehicle.

At least one auto manufacturer has addressed both of these issues. Tesla’s 2022 Cybertruck will use bare 3mm thick (1/8”) 300 series stainless steel that is hard to dent and eliminates primer and paint. It’s the same SS that is used on the SpaceX Starship exterior.

Absolutely, front and both sides. On MGM I’ve found that a black sharpie will make the small ones disappear. I’ve used Dr Colorchip too but you definitely need the right technique for that and the kit is pricy, good paint match though.

 

Thanks man, truly appreciate the encouragement, 3 hours later, done done, managed to maintain the Dean's list pending this med surg grade. Appreciate it, I actually have a bit of GAD so testing has never been my strong suit.

 

No worries dude. So many options though besides PPF. What about a ceramic coat, alot of off the shelf stuff that will cost you maybe $100 and day's work and doesn't require yearly waxes and detail trips. Really easy maintain and will last a really long time, like years if done right and maintained regularly with simple washes and maybe a topcoat to keep it beading.

Dude I had a massive chip on my way to the PPF / CP place literally the same week I took delivery, a month later, brand new windshield. Its up to you but I will never argue against a good nano coating, I just think PPF and its price is not worth it. But if you're willing to spend the money than nothing beats PPF combined with a good coating.
