You're missing my point, people do what works for them. But the whole idea of posting here asking who did this, is incredibly vain and in many cases a far worse decision than a lease or loan. Some of the people in here saying they paid cash have mentioned about saving for a year or two to do so. That isnt the person who can afford to pay cash for a car thats 30-45K. If it takes you longer than say 6 months you probably arent the right person to be paying cash. in some scenarios, because none of us know their saving habits maybe they are. but someone who doesnt need financial reinforcement isnt posting on a stupid forum about how theyre "liberated" from debt.

For those who use credit wisely it can be a good thing. Being debt free can also be a good thing. How you buy/lease a vehicle is a personal choice.
That said, the real question is how prepared are you or will you be for retirement? That answer should be in the vehicle purchase equation.

If you make 800K and your accountant says you should, odds are you will. write-offs at high incomes are your friend.

holy shit am i conversing with my wife.

    point missed again.

People do what works for them. Most people do it and just move along. Accountant or not. I dont make 800K but I make good money, i use an accountant so I can manage my freelance business and expenditures. In the forum hypothetical world where someone making 800K plus a year decides to have a financial advisor or accountant and that person advises them to lease, typically they do. Because you have access to a handful of rich people that buy cash doesnt mean theyre making the right or wrong decision. Theyre making the decision that works for them.

Your points arent being missed I'm simply explaining my perspective based on my experience...this conversation isn't one sided.

I feel sorry for your wife.

You bring hypotheticals, I bring real world examples.

They are rich, they pay cash, they don't bother with accountants, period. Stop arguing with yourself.

That's the facts and your experience may be different. Learn to accept it.

this is something that I think plays a major role in paying cash.
It would be pretty damn hard for someone in their 20s to buy this truck cash.

And those that say you can't afford it then I dont get.
To me can't afford it is not being able to make payments and have it repossessed.

If you're older, retired, likely mortgage free, sure you could afford to pay it cash.

Don't assume because I havent mentioned having rich friends, that I don't in-fact have wealthy friends, family etc. One person I can reference leases high end luxo barges and has hundreds of millions. He does it because it works for him, whether its desire to not own and swap cars often or someone is advising. As I've said, people do what works best for them. Your wealthly friends dont want or need this cool. It doesnt make their decision or anyonse elses any more or less the right pathway. The real point is, they're not posting here about their financial moves.

Except some people here infer that having some form of debt is bad. Which as we all know simply isnt the case.

Which is something I never mentioned. Quote them and talk to them about it.

I was simply throwing my experience when someone said "rich people do X" and I experience "Y"

depends on where the money came from and generation.
I could see a younger person in their 30s that made it for themselves buying the flashiest car they can.
Where as someone who worked hard to build their company and came from a different gen buy something cheap for daily and then have the fancy one as well.

I know one of the custom homes I built years ago, the owner had a ferrari and was the owner of one of the largest canadian garage door lift companies. but his daily drive was a VW Touraeg. Old italian guy and his wife was the greatest.
Could tell when people are just stuck up cunts and when they came from nothing. Once the house was built and we were there just installing the lights she was there every morning (prior to them moving in) to make us coffee and breakfast.
Meanwhile I've been in custom homes for younger people that either had someone in their family die and leave them a bunch of money or just somehow make it and they are the most ignorant pieces of shit possible, treat you like fucking garbage too.

That italian couple we got to know and the wife told us how they came here in the 50s with nothing. the husband worked hard to build up his company etc. Didn't look down on anyone that made less than him and respect everyone. Meanwhile work for some that won't even let you use their washroom, they rent a portable shitter to put in the driveway because you know, we're here just to change light bulbs and we're just SOOOOO dirty

...which is why were having a conversation about the 2 sides of the same coin. I think we can both agree that no one fucking cares how someone else got their vehicle. Rich or not, but posting about how free you are, is a fucking moot point.
