How many people here would buy a new land cruiser pickup over a new tacoma if it was an option?

I bought a Tacoma because it was the closest car to the land cruiser pick up truck.. “close”.

if I would have had the option, I would have bought it and NEVER look back… have in mind that it is BASIC and HARSH. I’ve driven it on my home country. But it is THE BEST. It is not for everyone…

I'm gonna try to buy one of these in Dubai early next year. I've got a hookup to get it a free ride back to the states.

The future is now! Reminds me of the Merc Unimog concept from a few years ago.

I would. It's the sort of truck I'd plan to keep for 25 years.

This. It’d get obliterated by the review rags, TFL, and others for it’s low tech, features, and low 7700lb towing capacity.

It’s exactly the truck everyone on truck forums says they want, but few would actually buy.

    You guys.
I rode in one across the Trans Siberian Highway in the early 90's... Over 2,000 miles out and back, when it was dirt, mud and gravel. Three days out, two days in the mine and three days back.
We slept in the truck. We had two trucks and some type of SUV. We had diesel in the trailer and provisions on the racks. Bed was full of spare tires. I was in my late 20's then and swore, if I got back to civilization, I would never ride one of those bastards again. I'm sure a buckboard wagon ride better than those.
I lost count of the times we were winched and tugged through the mud.
My 21 OR would have made the trip in much more comfort and faster too. Only mods I would make would be a winch and some big ass bypass shocks. The washboard went on for miles and miles. So you guys wish for an ancient truck, that's good. However you need to realize that the truck you drive now will run circles around that one. Yeah yeah yeah you can haul more in that one. Big deal. We only hauled spare tires!
I think we had two flats...one out and one back and my driver spoke no English.

Damn, a drivers side grab handle. That would eliminate a dozen threads a week on here!

I would take a 70 series Troopy over my Tacoma - drove a 76 wagon for 3000km through the outback last time I was in Aus and enjoyed every minute of it:D but to each their own.

I guess I'm less impressed with the oh so glorious 4.0 than some, unless you make it an inline six. Also, that 4-door looks like crap.

That reminds me I check my Tacoma every night with a flashlight because it's easier to see the paint peeling areas before they run away.

Honestly the climate control is one of my favorite parts. My silly dual zone, pick your digital temp climate control is a total unwanted feature. Just give me a fan speed switch, and a couple knobs with cables and vacuum to move my air around please. I get powertrains need to become more modern to meet emission and fuel economy standards but why did everything else have to get more complicated to go along with that? I suppose planned obsolescence just like a cell phone. I feel this truck fights that trend just a little. The tacoma will fair better that the rest 20 years down the road, but if the 3.5 bites the dust I am probably not going to look at how to swap in the latest fuel cell powertrain. If I had a 2022 L/C pickup I definitely would.

Always found it interesting how the mind plays tricks on the memory, few remember how the great 60's muscle cars were ill handling, gas guzzling, over sized death tanks with few amenities that rusted away in five years and were headed for the scrap heap around 100k miles... ahhh...the good ole days...
