    Mine's still hangin' in there.

Drivin' Hwy 26 and Hwy 6 can put the hurt on a windshield especially during the winter.

Six weeks after I bought my Taco I got a small chip in the windshield. Two days later the temp dropped and I had to use the defroster and the chip grew into a crack that spanned the length of the windshield.

Bought mine Feb 2010. It has gotten several chips in it. Got them all repaired before they grew. I'm curious if anyone has a bug deflector/hood protector on the front and if that has helped?

although Im a first gen, I've done 30k in my truck and never got a chip. I have had a 3" diameter chunk of concrete fly up and smack the very edge of the class, barely scratched it but no chip.

the windshield was replaced right before I bought the truck, not sure if it was the original but it had 146k on it.

edit. almost all those miles have been 75mph freeway.

I pretty much plan on one a year for each of my cars sometimes more for the work cars that spend all day oh on he road. It's been that way no matter what I drive in the 9 years I've lived in Colorado. Thankfully I've got all 6 vehicles on one insurance policy and my insurance company charges a total of 5 bucks a month for unlimited no deductible glass replacement on all cars on the policy. Not a bad deal.

I've had a chip in my glass for almost a year. A rock on the highway hit it and took out a circular chip. Been through a full winter with the chip and hasn't grown. I have full glass with no deductible, just haven't gotten around to replacing it.

    Visit the Build.
On my 2008, the windshield has had to be replaced once. Although it was chipped in a few areas, the airbags deploying killed it. Heh.

It does seem as though new windshields are weaker because many are so much bigger. Siennas, Avalons, etc all have easily damaged windshields. My mother's 2006 Sienna has had at least four new windshields (270K+ miles) but her 2001 (380K+ miles) has never had one replaced.

Word of caution here boys, if replacing your wipers, you accidentally let the arm go and hit the wind shield with no blade in it, expect a crack and a need for replacement.

Ax me how I know. I have done that before on a car or two and never had a problem, the wind shield laughed at the hit. Not the Toyota one though, maybe there is a stress point in that area ??????

I had my Tacoma for about 3 months before a caster from some scaffolding came flying right at me at about 70 miles an hour. Luckily, the glass stopped it, but had to be replaced ASAP.

And having about 4 months on the replacement windshield a rock came at me at the exact same spot. Hoping this one is repairable though. It chipped the glass pretty good though.

I am glad I stumbled on this, as I thought it was just me.

    Misery loves company.
