I've had my light on for over a year. One broke in my truck the week after I bought it. I went to get it replaced and the dealer wanted something like $140. Told em thanks but no thanks and haven't looked back! Got new wheels and tires and don't even know if they're still in there or not. I didn't have it on any of my other vehicles so I think I'll manage lol

Constantly switch between wheels, one set has sensors and the other doesn't.

My winter set of steel wheels do not have sensors. I plan on just dealing with the light.

I plan on leaving my stock wheels with them in for the winter and when I get my new SCS Wheels they will not have them in for the summer.

Put a little piece of black tape over that light, problem solved. LOL
I have no tpms in my tires either. I can do it the old style way , no problems.

    Me too.
I don't always get the light. I use the tape when it triggers. Resets back in the driveway close to the summer set w/sensors.
I did run into a problem with a tire shop (tire warehouse) close to my house who wouldn't mount my wheels without the sensors. I think they were trying to soak me for $$. Said it was law. I said no problem & went to a small time garage who gladly took my $20 bucks to mount the tires & wheel set. I don't have the means to do it myself :(

Dealer tried to tell me that too. They said it was illegal so I had to have it replaced. I just said well, I'm not paying for it. They just put the wheel back on and sent me on my way ha!

Iirc, there was a post where someone had found the tpms unit, its under the headliner close to the back window, and just unplugged it. No more light.

Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
You purchased the truck and after a week the TPMS went out on one of the wheels and the dealer wanted to charge you to fix/repair/replace it?!

Did you tell him that the vehicle was under warranty?

no sensors in the winter wheels and I think the battery in one or more are dead in my alloys as the light stayed on after putting them back on this spring

Well if it was broken when removing a tire from a wheel etc it wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

    Yes that would do it.

But from how you worded your original post I was under the impression that it broke with the truck having the original OEM tires and wheels.

Still I would have had "whoever" changed the wheels/tires on your truck to pay to have it replaced, you got jack'd.

That is, unless "you" swapped the wheels/tires yourself?

In those states that require a safety inspection before license renewal, they are not suppose to pass without a functioning TPMS system. You can thank Ford, Firestone, and Clinton for this law. Should be the TPFD (tire pressure for dummies) system.

I'm soooo glad my 05 doesn't have them. I check my tire pressure religiously and have spidey-sense when it comes to pressure differences so no need for a dummy light in my dash.
