There is a person on FB near me selling a pair of used predator steps. They're asking $300, and while the steps are in mostly good condition, there is a moderate dent in one of the steps (on the lower rung part). What would they be worth to you?

A little side question, could that bend be straightened? Given that the steps are aluminum.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I paid $150 for brand new takeoffs.
    Check: car-part.com near you.

Keep searching, you can find some take offs with no dents cheaper than that

That’s way too much! And, I don’t think you could cheaply/easily repair.
I see them occasionally on FB around $100 or so

I agree, it’s way too much. Problem is, not very many options in my neck of the woods. Given the dent, I’ll offer substantially lower and hope for the best, if they say no then no large loss for me :)

here’s a pic of the dent btw

I probably would not haggle too much with the $300 price point if they were brand new takeoffs. But no way I would give that much if damaged.

They're worth as much as you're willing to pay! How fast do you want to get your hands on a set? Patience will allow you to find a used set for half that price, but its not uncommon for people to get $300 for them. The general public typically has no idea on the value of things; they google it, get a dealer quote, and think $300 sounds pretty fair. I sold mine for $3-400 (I don't remember) and bought sliders same day.

Edit for clarification, they're not worth $3-400, especially not damaged; but the seller will get that asking price if they're patient. Just hopefully not from you

They're selling used and DAMAGE stuff, offer them $50. Make it a take it or leave it offer. You can get new ones for about the price he's offering.

    Edit: For less!

$45...or less if I can't make them look new.

I'm always amazed how people try to sell stuff and make no effort to either fix the item, clean it up, etc. Almost everything I sell will be in excellent condition and I usually price things about 40% of retail.

Quick tip: Go to the buy/sell/trade section of the site, search keyword "predator", search titles only, search 3rd gen forum only, and take note of the multiple listings, prices, and prices sold. That'll give you an unbiased opinion of what "fair" going rate is. Then consider the damage, and make an offer from there if you can live with it.

New they are OEM at $600, the are aluminum and a bit thin.
Thats why its dented, its thin metal.
You can drill a 5/16" hole on the top side of the tube,
then and use a 1/4"punch to tap thru the tube to move the bottom tube metal back out to "close however not perfect" and paint it.

For future reference, it's not called the "Mid-West", it's called "The-Rust-Belt". AKA: Where metal parts go to die a slow and painful death.

Thankfully I'm just far enough south down the belt that the metal parts die just a little bit slower :D
