I am looking at a 2017 TRD Off Road Double cab, I got a quote about about $2000 under msrp, is this a good deal or do they have more room to lower the price? I have seen similar configurations on here that got more off.

Is that OTD or just the truck?

Just the truck. If I can get more off what would your target be?

My MSRP was something like $35600ish. With title and license and any other dealer added fees, my final price was $33400 and was also trucked from a Seattle dealership to a Vancouver dealership to not add any miles during the transfer.

You can probably do better on yours now that 2017's are old news and dealers are making room for the 2018's.

I completely forgot to try and work add on to the final price just to see if I could squeeze a few freebies into the deal.
Things like a bed mat, cab side bed rail that is standard on 2nd gen Tacomas, etc..

If you can get the actual VIN from the truck you are looking at, feel free to throw offers at other dealers to compete for you business on that truck.
Dealers can and will do truck swaps if you make a deal with one and the truck is actually at another. Just bounce deal numbers off each dealer that is interested until you get to your satisfaction. You know you are getting close when dealers say that they can't go any further and drop out of the race.

Just got my first Tacoma last week, I got a 2017 because I didn't want all the TSS stuff on it. It was a TRD Sport 4x2 Double Cab, the MSRP was $35,200 and got it for $31,000 + TTL. Not as good a deal as I'm seeing some of you getting but these Southern California dealers really don't like to budge.

I was looking at 2017 before buying my 2018 last week and saw that majority of them were going for 33,000-35,000 w/ premium package in my area. I pulled the trigger and went with the 2018 TRD Off road with the tow package only. 39,100 before TTL, but that is cause the dealership added stuff to it like side mirror film for rock/bug protection, stainless steel exhaust tip, door handle protection film and some other small stuff. Didn't really haggle on the price since that was what I valued the vehicle to be in, it was the only color (quicksand) in 100 mi radius in the year and trim. I also had a trade in, and having sold/bought 9 other vehicles; I know how dealerships operate.

Basically, if its a new car, dealership tries to get more than distributors retail price (its every thing they added, delivery, fees, and area market value). Reason being is that they get percentages/bonus from manufactures depending on the price they sold the vehicle for. I had a trade in and they wanted 10k for it (kbb said trade in was 12k, but I my locks and windows were not working properly so they lowered it to 10k), I told them I won't touch/haggle the tacoma's price, but work on the trade in. After the long back and forth this is what I got:
-14.5 k for my trade in
-free window tint on the front windows (mine came with privacy glass in the rear windows, not sure if it comes from manufacturer like that or distributor)
-half off on Xpel film that covers the whole front end (bumper, hood, side fender, and grille). It's the clear ones that when its gets scratched, I just pour hot water on it and the scratch disappears.

I also came with a pre-approve loan and know that if you go finance using the dealership service, what ever bank wins the deal gives the dealer a percentage of the loan so it benefits the dealers to look for financing thru them. Since I knew that, I brought my pre-approve loan terms and told them to talk to all the banks they were connected with and try to beat mine. They were able to secure a loan that is a whole percentage lower than what my pre-approve loan from my bank gave me which I thought was already low. Chase won the bidding so they are financing my truck and heard good reviews on their customer service so I am happy.

I bought my 2017 TRD Off Road Double Cab a few weeks ago. The MSRP was $38k and some change. They had a "sale price" of $36400. It seemed to be a pretty decent price with the predator bars, fog lights, etc. It still came under the True car price, so I wasn't feeling too bad. After all was said and done, I somehow got their "no haggle price" down to $34000. I took it and ran!

Toyota holdback is based on MSRP. Has nothing to do with what the final sale price is.

Not talking about holdbacks. And if you looked at the sticker, majority of dealership will now show hold backs and invoices. Different manufacturers give incentives on either overall sales price or amount of vehicle sold in either monthly, quarterly, or annual intervals (depends on manufacturer). Do you really think dealerships would sell new vehicles at or below MSRP with only $500-$1000 profit from holdbacks? There are other incentives for them now since people figured out the holdbacks and having a hard time making profit/selling vehicles.
