I paid over 40k because I was so eager. I wish I would have waited.

No need to think like that - "ripped off" is just a state-of mind. If you're happy with the truck console yourself with the knowledge that the difference between what you paid and what the people that got a "great deal" by paying $1000 less, is worth about 50-cents a day. So does that matter to you financially? Will it keep you from buying any of the mods you wanted? I'm guessing, no. The deal is done, go do something fun in the truck and you'll be much happier than fretting over quarters.

I got my 2017 Access Cab TRD OR 4x4 Auto back in September through the Costco purchase program. I liked the experience, no dicking around, just a final price out the door of 34,600$. That's with the tow package, OEM mats, mud flaps and bed mat.

On a side note, I sold my old car, a 2008 Honda CRV in a private sale after I got the Taco, and it was a great choice, at least 2K over what anyone would give me in trade in.

I think I did OK, not really sure though.

I just picked up my SR5 DCLB with the tow package and all weather mats from Doxon Towota in Auburn WA. This was a modification of a build they had in the queue, so it took about a month to arrive. I'd emailed back and forth with basically every dealer in Washington and this was the cheapest price I was able to get after lots of back and forth negotiating. Other states seem to have better deals, but $2,700 off MSRP seems pretty good for WA.

    $35,083 MSRP
    $32,343 Purchase Price

I believe most states have pretty specific disclosure rules regarding selling cars that had gone through a lemon law buyback, some even note it on the title. So while it's possible some of these fall in that category, any dealers selling lemoned cars without those notifications would be committing fraud.

Folks ought to verify their local laws of course as this is state specific.

Lol! My best friend from college said I was crazy paying $37k out the door price for a Tacoma. He told me "you could have gotten a fully loaded certified preowned 3 series BMW for that price.

That may be true but I wanted an off road capable pickup truck instead of an entry level luxury sedan.

Everything adds up, add tax and interest onto that and it is probably $20 a month over 5 years. Not a bunch of cash but you could do something each month with it.

I didn't get the best price for my truck but I do live in a state with only 5% tax rate and bought from a dealer with only a $112 doc fee which helped keep the fees down.
Some dealers charge ridiculous doc fees. My cousin bought a SUV a few months ago back in Georgia and had to pay a $600 doc fee! Ouch!

It does make me a little disappointed that I paid $34,830 for my TRD off road auto trans w/o the premium tech package when folks in this thread paid $32,000 for the same truck and configurations. The dealership knew they had me by the balls because my lease was due back in two days and I did not want to buy out the lease of my previous vehicle so the sales manager did not want to haggle with me and knew I was in a rush to get a new vehicle.

Also, these dealers don't take folks in their early 20s seriously at all and this is only my second vehicle purchase. My last purchase was a scion which had a no haggling price policy and it was a lease. I am not familiar with haggling.

You did great on your price with Premium and Tech Package. That one guy that said he paid $32K was mistakenly calling his deal Premium and Tech but after looking at his window sticker it said Premium Entune which is standard on TRD models.

I have been collecting quotes for 2 months now and have started looking at Trucks on the lot. Does anyone have an idea of how much I should expect discounted off MSRP when buying off the lot?

Depends on which model you are buying.
Typical amount is $2500 off a MSRP but some people in this thread are getting 15-20% off MSRP which is $4000 off but those deals are pretty rare.

Aim to pay invoice for the truck with options. Tell the dealer you want to see the invoice sheet and you will pay that.

Do you *have* to buy off the lot?

As to your question, specifics will vary by location and possibly model. I'd expect you could achieve an OTD of invoice plus TTL.

I'd still do the mass email to a bunch of dealers for a quote to order the truck you want, and then take the lowest to whichever dealer has the matching config on the lot and see if they're willing to match it. If not, place the order with the place that gave you the low quote.

No, this just opens a big can of worms. The less opportunity you give the dealer to try spin stories of his price and losing money and all that the better.

Not to mention you do that and he'll zero in on an invoice number higher up on his invoice sheet as "his invoice" and now you're in a weak negotiating position. You said you'd pay invoice and there it is, but now you're reneging because for not wanting to pay the TDA or Dealer Fees or Put-The-Customer-Over-The-Barrel fee.

Keep it simple. All you care about is what you pay out the door. How he gets there doesn't matter.

Take the invoice prices from 3rd Gen Tacoma Model/Package/Option Costs Master List and figure out your local TTL to find your OTD target. Negotiate to that number.

Thanks, I am currently looking at an two different SR5's on two different dealers lots. Quote 2 is the truck i would like to have as it has the dark satin wheels and the other does not. Keep in mind that I have not conditioned quote 2 nearly as much as quote 1.

Quote 1: SR5 model# 7540 Options: V6 Tow, All weather liner & sill protectors, bed mat, exhaust tip, mudguards. MSRP = $34,942 and was quoted $32,920 (I know that invoice on this one is $32,234)

Quote 2: SR5 model# 7540 Options: V6 Tow, All weather liner & sill protectors, bed mat, exhaust tip. MSRP = $34,813 and was quoted $31,837 (Invoice for this $32,154)

I though that buying trucks off the lot could get you a significantly better deal? Was I wrong?

Fair enough. I paid the advertised internet price of $34,830 for mine and tried to get them to go lower but they didn't.
I didn't ask for their invoice sheet and didn't know what the invoice was on the truck when I bought it.
According to the master list I paid over $500 invoice for my truck.
This is only my second vehicle purchase. First was a lease so i have no expertise in negotiating.

I bought mine off the lot and only got $2k off MSRP. $36,742 MSRP and paid $34,830. I wanted my truck in blue initially and they found one at another dealership but I would have had to pay full MSRP for it.
You probably live in a region where there isn't monster deals like the southeast or you don't live in an urban area like Atlanta or Washington DC where there is massive competition between dealers.
Keep getting quotes from dealership within a 100 mile radius from you to see if you can get a lower price.

gpb, I have actually taken your advice from earlier thread replies and been negotiating based on OTD (excluding TTL). I only posted my pricing as discount from MSRP because that's how most people have been submitting pricing on this thread. I live in KC on the KS side and contacted 12 dealers from both KS and MO.

What was the lowest price you received after contacting 12 dealers?

The truck I wanted was SR5 model 7540, Dark Grey with V6 Tow as the only option.
    Invoice = $31,875
Best offers = $32,800ish (8 of the dealers claimed that they cannot come down in price as much when its built to order)

My goal OTD price is $32K + TTL. After visiting a few dealers I have found they are willing to reduce the prices on lot inventory much more. I could honestly give a crap about the exhaust tip, bed mat and mudguards but im getting a better deals even with the options.
