Guys, This hasn't changed since I posted on page 3 of this same thread. There is only a couple ways a dealer will/can sell below invoice...1) A factory rebate....they sell at invoice the factory rebate is applied to get it below invoice (the factory is eating this). 2) see above post 3) They dip a few hundred below invoice into hold back because they are cutting your balls off on the finance or lease reserve profit.....don't kid yourselves....a dealer cant stay in business if they don't make some money....they are not going to pay you to buy their car.....there is no magic buying discount (Costco, Broker, Amex, Employee purchase BS)...because there are no ways to change what the dealer paid for the car...they cant just randomly sell at discounts that are not there to begin with.....there are a lot of people on here that want to flaunt their great buying skills and the "special deal" they got.....and a good percentage of them don't really understand the true math and falsely believe their own myth.....the profit has to be there to discount in the first place....it has to come from somewhere. Any dealer can give you $10K off of MSRP, IF, they marked it up $8K to begin with. A dealer will gladly dip below invoice if they are stealing your trade for $3000 less than value. The math is the math....there is only so much margin for them to work with. I wrote the above post hoping to help people understand the black hole....and all the variables. PLEASE don't drive yourselves crazy listening to others and trying to find the mythical deal that doesn't exist.

Very well said. Also, If 3 dealers let you walk out and didn't call you back in in a couple of days, then you're probably not going to find a magical dealer on the next try that sells to you at the number you insisted on before they let you leave. If they can make it work for you they will. They are not in business to let people walk out the door and never see them again. Yes, there may be a dumbass salesman that may allow you to get away, but if his sales manager finds out, and he WILL find out because he knows you were in there talking to him, that salesman won't be employed for long.

I was a Toyota salesman for a while. (I chose to leave, I left to continue in my field I retired from originally)

If someone walks out, the sales manager will be all over you to find out how and why that happened. If you are new to the sales game and he thinks you possibly have what it takes, he will counsel you. If you still get it wrong again after his teaching and coaching, he will yell and curse and threaten you. If you STILL let people out the door you get fired.

Don't ask us for the secret password to get 15-20% off MSRP. The guy who posts that he got that is either lying or he got hosed on his trade-in or in the finance manager's office. Or both places.

I have a neighbor who trades in his Tacoma every couple of years and truly believes he gets a free truck each time.

They’ll give you 2.9% for 60 months or $500 off the truck. My bank will do 3% for 72 months gonna do that if I’m stupid enough to pull the trigger.

That would be great! Earlier in the thread you said you had a quote for a 19 OR with tech/premium in cement, was that price with rebate and fees included? Because that's the exact vehicle I'm looking for, next in line would be silver.

This is 100% not true. I went to 5 of my local big name Toyota dealers within a 15 mile area when looking to order my 2019 Tacoma. All 5 let me walk when I told them straight out from the start. I want to order a 2019 so please do not try to sell me a 2018. I want it for $900.00 below invoice. They all said impossible and let me walk. I then went to a local smaller dealer who hardly advertises and is in a wealthy town. Told the sales manager the same exact thing and he pulled out a form and started filling it out. Pulled up the 2019 build on his computer and said which model do you want? He was going to give me $900 below on any model I ordered. I was out the door in 30 min with truck ordered .

Some dealers are a little more greedy than others.

That quote was before tax, title, and their $499 dealer handling but still best deal I’ve seen by far in Denver.

Did you already buy? That’s TRD pricing, you should be able to get it for less. Try Freaman Toyota in Santa Rosa.

Have you looked in the Springs at all? The first initial quote I got for a Tacoma was from Larry H. Miller. I simply just asked for a price and breakdown and this is what I got:

    Vehicle Price - $41,118
    Rebate - $500
    Discount - $3,291
    Fees + $600

    Total = $37,927 + TTL

I feel like I have quite a bit of room to bring it down, considering that was their initial quote.

Only one I tried outside of Denver was Sapp with the Costco program and their price was the worst one out of all four I’ve talked to.

Not pointing to anyone's particular deal, but there's more than just talking down the dealer to a number you want. The finance rate they give you is also negotiable. Two dealers told me they "automatically" give a rate of 5.7%. (Without telling the customer up front)

You may walk out smiling and thinking you bought the truck for $1000 below invoice, but when they figure in the finance rate of 5.7% on you, they just made an extra $2300 on you. ($25,000 financed at 2.9% for 72 months you pay about $2200 for the loan. at 5.7% you pay $4500)
