    It's complicated.
I updated my earlier quotes, which were dyslexified (apparently dyslexitized is not a real word) conflated and incorrect--sorry, I've talked to so many dealers, that the numbers were running together.

    The correct quotes are $36,823 & $36,617 (previously $36,023 & $36,800)

Right now, the plan is to fly out to buy the truck from the out-of-state dealership, and take a few days of vacation to drive it back home.

    More to come!

I'm about to pull the trigger. 2019 TRD Off-Road Double Cab 4x4 in Super White. Comes with tri-fold hard tonneau, all weather mats and door sill protectors. MSRP is 38,458. Got them down to 33,943, which will be 36,771 out the door with TTL. Is this a solid deal? Should I push for some step rails???

Im in IL by STL and im looking at a 2019 TRD OF DCSB. black. Tonnou (spelling) cover. msrp 38500. Base package (i dont need the cross traffic and other tech stuff, the radar cruise and blutooth standard are good enough).

First offer they made after test drive was 35750 with 1.9%. Hunted around with other dealers. Got it down to 35000 for the same truck through email alone.

Im hoping to go back in and offer 34000. See if the would throw in tinting and floor liners.

Any thoughts? These prices seem much more firm with tacomas then other vehicles ive negotiated in the past.

UPDATE: I flew to Denver, and bought a Super White 2019 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 DCLB, with Premium Off-Road & Technology packages, rubber floor mats, and the carpeted floor mats/sill protector. $36,823 OTD.

The nearest any of the Oregon/Washington/Northern California dealerships would counter was still almost $3,000 away. I shopped this quote to 6 closest dealerships, and Gladstone & Wilsonville Toyota practically called me a liar--even though I sent them all a photo of the written quote, along with the VIN they could check.

I was finishing signing paperwork at the dealership in Denver, when one of the sales people from Gladstone Toyota emailed me to check whether I had actually bought a vehicle... As much as I abhor selfies, I took a selfie with my sales guy, in front of my new truck--and emailed it to him.

**Added are the Monroney sticker, and the buyer's order sheet--with my personal info & VIN removed, for obvious reasons.

I drove my new truck home from Denver; approx. 1,300 miles! I can see why people LOVE them! I LOVE my new truck!

Bunk: is that the 4X4 TRD Off Road? That seems extremely low for an OTD price.

You sound like the dealerships... ;-)

Yes. 4x4. I added photos of the window sticker & my $ paperwork.

I just realized that I didn't get the breakdown sheet that showed the subtraction of $4,555 from total vehicle cost, and its itemization. They showed it to me when I first arrived, so that I could confirm the $36,823 total sale price. I never saw it again, and assumed that it was in the packet with everything else. Hmm.

Remember we pay way more sales tax, license and title fees then most states.

Copy that. Nonetheless the vehicle he describes (assuming it's 4X4) has an MSRP of about $42.5k, so his OTD seems really low, even for a lower sales tax state.

Forgot to mention that while I was in Denver, I met up with Taco Twonz & his cousin, and bought their Tacoma TRD Pro grille w/ the amber lights.

I also bought my Tacoma from mountain state Toyota. Got a similar discount approx 5k off in May. That price is legit! I was floored when I called them to shop around. But I only had to drive back to Albuquerque.

And that's why it's so important to work on a sales price before you even tell them you're trading in your car. I'll hide my car in the next lot over if needed to ensure that doesn't come up until the very end.
