I have a 2021 Tacoma Sport. Im currently running 265 65 17 stock tires. I want to go bigger but idk how much bigger to go. I want to keep my rims and just go big on tires. Whats the general rule of thumb?

There is a thread here somewhere about pizza cutter tires, tall skinny, 255-80/17 in your case (I think), that you might be able to fit on those wheels with no rubbing. Search pizza cutter and you should be able to find it.

If Auto, no more than 31.5" unless tuned.

265/75/17's might be too much. On 17" rims 265/70/17 is a safe bet. I have 265/75/16's on my truck which is almost exactly the same overall height and width as 265/70/17's. 265/75/17's are just enough taller that you may need to modify the truck and you'll see some loss of performance.
