7800lbs .... no sir. That is not advisable. Our trucks if you have the tow package can only take about 6500lbs. Around 3800lbs if No tow package.

The truck is about 4000 to 5000 and the trailer is maybe 1000.

Honestly anything over 2k you will need brakes and that requires a towing package and a good brake controller even then I'm pretty sure the stock truck - hitch, leafs, etc. is only rated for 5k.
If you had a beefier hitch/bumper and heavier aftermarket leafs and a manual trans would help you could probably push 7k. And then you better have very solid and reliable trailer brakes and have your trailer weight properly distributed. You are gonna be struggling hard on any hills and if your in an automatic I don't think it would behave well.

If It's truly 7800 I would say that's really pushing it too far. In general you don't want your trailer weight to exceed your vehicle weight with this type of combination, mostly for handling reasons, you can push it quite bit but that's getting close to double the stock rating.

I drive a 4x8 with a 2k axle and no brakes a whole lot and its no problem even when full. But when getting towards the top of that its really putting a lot of strain on stock brakes so I usually keep it below 1-1500.
I also drive a ?x18 equipment trailer rated for 7k, 2 axles with brakes, had different small tractors on there, heaviest was probably around 6500 for the trailer total and at that weight its no joke with a truck this light and I have all of the things I mentioned before.

So much misinformation. You can tow over 2000lbs safely without trailer brakes. The stock Tacoma with tow package is rated ~6500lbs depending on truck configuration. The OP is asking about a Tundra which is rated well above that with the tow package. People tow trailers all the time that weigh more than the truck, most mid to large travel trailers weigh more than the 2500s that tow them.

zero misinformation, I'm talking about a Tacoma, didn't realize it was a tundra, everything I've said is from first hand experience towing with a tacoma, if that doesn't match the numbers on the sticker its because the number on the sticker is not realistic.

You absolutely cannot tow over 2k on a tacoma without trailer brakes and be safe. Most states won't even allow you to register a trailer without brakes over 3k and that's not meant to be behind a tacoma. I'm telling you from experience that the stock brakes will not feel good with more than 2k extra behind them and its not safe for highway driving.

IMHO you also are not safely towing 6500 with the stock tow package tacoma. The 6500 limit is assuming a 10% tongue weight, good luck achieving that in reality. With 650 tongue your probably around 4500-5k even if you push the tongue rating you will be well over by the time you get to 6500. Look up the standard hitch class ratings, a class 3 hitch is 5k /800 tongue and tacomas with tow package have a glorified class 3 hitch, the regular bumper hitch is good for class 1 or 2. I stand by 5k being a reasonable limit.

Vehicle weight is critically important for how the combination handles. You can push the trailer weight past the vehicle weight but not by a huge margin. usually 20-30% max.
Most mid-large travel trailers go to gooseneck past 8-10k for that exact reason.
The main reason you couldn't ever tow 10k with a Tacoma is its too light.

    I tow
Towing 6500lbs might not be smart but it’s within the limit. You said the limit was 5000lbs was the limit which is wrong. I tow about 3000lbs every week without brakes, it’s perfectly safe. I even do it on unplowed ice roads in the winter without brakes. I do it up and down hills at highway speeds with an automatic transmission and no problems. Agree to disagree though, to each their own.
