How much cargo (weight) can my Tacoma handle? My 03 Tacoma TRD has a V 6 I believe and I am trying to figure out how much weight it can carry in the bed. The manual is quite vague and covers so many different versions of the Tacoma. Ie. Pre-runner, single, double cab, etc….I know mine is the pre-runner but then they ask for engine specs which I know nothing about. I wish they had a manual for each specific Tacoma so when you bought it you would only have information relating to your Tacoma and not about four or five other models.

    Thanks.

I think about 1,500 pounds. I know mine with the 2.7 and automatic says like 1,700 something. Alot i'm guessing is to have to do with what motor and transmission you have. I have a brochure at home from when I bought my 2002 I could look. Kevin

Don't quote me on this but I believe you take your GVWR and subtract the curb weight of the vehicle. Then add passenger weight and whatever leftover is how much you can safely carry.

3500 is how much you can tow using bumper pull.
    5000 is with a hitch.

thats towing capacity not cargo capacity.

its about 1500 pounds. it does say in your owner's manual. just gotta figure out which combination of engine and body you have.

Brochure say 1,745 for prerunner extracab with V6 and auto. Extracab prerunner with 2.7 I-4 and auto is 1,830 pounds . 4x4 extracab with 2.7 is 1,630 pounds manual and auto is 1,600 pounds. 4x4 extracab with V6 manual is 1,585 and auto is 1,560 pounds

This is coming from the info in a brochure from 2002 Toyota Tacoma should be the same for 2003 .

    weight includes passengers,equipment and cargo..
