MSRP is irrelevant, $$$ from MSRP are irrelevant, negotiate from invoice. Many sources of invoice cost. Dealer makes money at invoice, don't listen to any sob stories that state otherwise.

Only other factor is when/where you're at to understand if the dealer will accept an invoice price, or if the market will allow them to hold out for a higher price.

Talk to the Internet/Fleet person via email first with a configuration and ask for the price, then ask for the invoice to verify what you're getting. If you go in informed and are capable of walking away from a deal you don't agree with, then your age won't matter.

I like to use Edmunds TMV to get an idea of what the location/time of year pricing should be. Note the Edmunds data is an indication only as it tends to lag the market trend by a month or two. So if the actual price is moving down, Edmunds shows the TMV as being a bit too high, same concept if the actual price is moving up, it'll show a bit low.

Do some research, get informed, knowledge will beat dealer sales drones every time.

Bro i know how you feel. I was 19 and said i was going to put 20K down on a new truck and they didnt take me seriously, they even questioned my motives. They ask "why do you need 4x4?", excuse me, I'm abot to drop 20k on a truck, i want 4x4 and my Rear Locker. Is it just me or is it wrong to question the customer?

And when it comes to negotiation. We couldnt go down on the price cause i guess we got the internet price which was about 2K lower than the lot price on a 2009 DC 4x4 off road with 2,999 miles on it. We got the 100k mile warranty though. :D and this was in July of 2009 at Toyota of Hollywood. Ended up paying a little under thirty thousand with Tax Tag and Title plus the extended warranty

    ^^^ Listen to that advice.

Find what invoice, delivery, and bs advertising fees are on Edmunds.
Figure they are making somewhere between 1% and 3% if they sell to you at invoice.
Decide how much extra you are willing to give them.
    Stick to it.

If you pick a reasonable number where the dealer is making some money and they don't bite, don't change your offer. Change your dealer.

    this is good advice.

in addition, have them email or fax you a copy of the invoice - beware however that they add some items on the bottom that they get back from toyota, such as 'dealer holdback', toyota tda, etc. - do not pay these, or at least most of these. the dealer does pay them, BUT they get them back at the end of the month. many dealers won't budge off of these- some will, you just need to call up various dealers and ONLY speak to the fleet manager.

Purchased my 2010 dbl cab long bed TRD sport in April. I had been looking around at different trucks and i found the best tactic for getting the best price. He gave me a price of 29,000. i really didnt want to by the truck right then i wanted to look around . he kept going back to the manager and when he would return more money was off the price. i just kept telling him that i wanted to look at other dealers. he just kept dropping the price and the final price that made me buy was 23,500 with oild changes every 5000 miles until 50,000 miles and free undercoating and interiour conditioning. i couldnt turn it down and i was so proud of the deal i got. just pretend that you dont want the vehicle. thats my new tactic

I used to sell cars so I dont like to be a pain to a salesman or dealer. I offered $500 over invoice so long as they didnt add all the BS things like VIN etch, fabric treatment, and other add on BS that is just profit. I wanted a 3.9% interest rate. I wanted the EXACT truck I wanted and no substitute color, option, etc. and wanted them to dealer trade or order if neccessary. I did not qualify for any extra rebates. Dealer agreed to my request and it was a done deal.

I bought my 08 new, sticker was around 27k, ended up 23,900 out the door. It was May 08 and fuel prices were crazy high and trucks were not selling. There first put the door price was around 30k. I laughed and got up to leave on that one.

Timing is everything. End of the month is good, end of the year, even better. Do your research, find out what other dealers are selling your truck for so you're prepared. I bought my '07 the week before Christmas of '07 during a huge snow storm. The dealership was dead and the truck I bought was the last '07 they had on the lot so they were more than willing to negotiate. The sale price shows I got about 6,000 off sticker but they also gave me a great trade in value for my old truck.

Because you are only 17, don't think they can sell you a truck anyway. You are not a "legal" adult and not responsbile for your actions....

Like others have said, negotiate through the online sales department and play one dealer against the other and don't be afraid to walk out the door. DO NOT let them see you being anxious.

Check out the Edmunds TMV (True Market Value) for the truck configuration you're looking at. Don't pay more than that. I paid a couple hundred less.

I'm negotiating right now. I had them down to $24,500 + TTT @ 3.9% for 60 months on a Dbl LB TRD Sport ($28,7xx MSRP) but then had to walk away when they added $500 in dealers fees at the list minute.

I've emailed/talked with over 10 dealers now. Many can come close and with a color I like better but can't seem to beat this deal. I have one more hope with a USAA dealer in Atlanta before I go back to the deal I walked out on.

Negotiating from the MSRP is not a good way to go. You should aways work from the invoice price.

Always know what the invoice price is and use the internet and ask what can the dealer do "under" invoice. Once that price is established you can search for truck with certain options you want, knowing you will always pay that certain "under" invoice price.

Typically anything under invoice is good. Depends how bad they want to move the vehicle. My 09 4x4 Sport AC was $1000 under invoice and the 10 Venza my wife just bought was $500 under. Both of these I would consider a good deal for the area that I live in. Your area may vary.

Word of advise to get that extra 500 off at the end and walk out with a big Shit eating grin:

    - Once you get the best price from them over the phone, give them a line that your Wife/GF doesn't like the color and that Dealer X - which is like 2hr drive but has that color, you have to call and make sure because you were looking for your exact truck, said he'd do about 200 less than that guy but 500 off and your there today!

    Fricken works every time!

my was lowered about 6 grand they ordered the wrong truck. I told them I didnt want it, so they gave me that truck for for the lowered price. The truck they ordered was nicer then what I wanted. I wanted a bse model 4wd 4 cyl and the truck they ordered came with some comfort package, black dash and rear sliding window, and tint.
