The best thing to do is to decide, before you ever start talking to them, exactly what the maximum price you are willing to pay. You want to figure out the OUT THE DOOR price, which means after ALL of the fees and taxes and etc. are taken into account.

Then they can't 'agree' on a price, and then tack on the document fee, the paint care fee, the headlamp fluid refill guarantee fee, etc.

The second part of this is that you have to be WILLING AND EAGER TO WALK AWAY. Even if it is the PERFECT truck. It's not the only truck in existence, it's not even the only truck exactly like that one. No matter what, you have to be willing to walk away if they don't meet or beat your absolute highest price.

In my case, I emailed a list of exactly what options I wanted, and asked for the absolute best price up front. The salesman didn't screw around with me, he quoted me a reasonable price. I counter-offered as a matter of principle, and he accepted. Made me wish I had one of those Staples "Easy" buttons on my desk.

Well I usually have a second vehicle that I plan on looking at next, make sure it does exist they do check, also have done the give me your business card, wrote down my offer and phone number and said call if you want to sell. Just remember the closer to end of the month the better deals.

I got $750 under dealer invoice. Ended up being approx $29,300 pre tax/title/lic/ect. Not to shabby for a new 2010 4x4 DC TRD Off-Road... Could I have maybe found a bit better of a deal? Sure. Likely when there was only one known (I found another on their lot they didnt' even have in the system) black sand pearl (and I wasn't budging from the color)? Highly not likely.

Worked good for me. I used USAA car buying FYI.

    Sticker - $28,091
    Final price - $24,136

Just shy of $4k, or about 14%, off. This was before all the SUA shenanigans and other recalls... I'd push for more of a discount today.

definetely not too young my friend! I walked in the dealership at 19 many times to test drive tacomas and fj's. I guess it helped that I had a sexy 4runner with me so they knew I was legit, but regardless they treated me like any other person. I did alot of research like most people on TW and knew what I wanted walking in the dealership. It took me 2 weeks of going back and forth to find the best deal and I walked out about 5 times but in the end worth it. Neve be afraid to walk out on a dealer. Do your research and know what the exact truck you want goes for in your area and you will be fine :)

That is only sometimes true. Dealerships have marks they need to hit for additional payments from the factory. IF they're very near a goal, they will sometimes even sell them back of their cost. IF they're not, you generally won't get any better of a deal then.

i have an 05 trd sport, the sticker price from my dealer was 31,xxx...i got it down to 24500...the reason why i got it so low is because i was bored and had nothing to do,so it looked like i was car shopping there all day..just remember, dont sound desperate because they will use that against you and you wont get a good rate

I got mine for 24K OTD.

I wanted them to knock off $20 off my monthly payments. They refused. I walked out and they came running after me. We then flipped a coin to decide.

    Guess who won that one.

36,700 sticker, negotiated to 32,500 before TTL, TTL was flat 2000 making it 34,500 OTD.

Dealer cost to get the vehicle configured the way I wanted it was $31,600. Actual dealer cost, not invoice.

You've gotten some real good advice here. The only thing I'll add is to check the online inventories for your local dealers and see what's on their lot. I'm trying to buy a 2010 prerunner, DC, TRD sport right now. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a single truck within 100 miles of my home configured like that right now. Lots of 4wd though. If the local dealers have several on the lot configured like you want I suspect they'll be more willing to deal. The quotes I'm getting so far are not very good since they're having to trade with another dealer to get the truck, and at this point I may just have to wait a little while. Good luck.

My 2010, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Regular Cab Automatic with Enhancement Package had a MSRP of $17900. The dealer's web site had it listed for $17149 plus the free Maintenance Package. It was the only Regular Cab in the City of Albuquerque that wasn't Super White. I took it for a quick test drive then took it home! I'm happy with the truck and the price.

it seems like they are getting more and more expensive every year. when I was looking for a truck the current year (2008) were going for like 24-27K sticker price. now with the 2010's the sticker price is what 29-30k for the same package truck?

Ps: I forgot to say that it took 1 month 3 visits to dealer + 4 hs negotiating plus going on the last day of the month 6 pm....
It is not easy.... But if y can get mad, walk out, comeback again etc, they will give it to u. They just bet that u will have enough and give in, to get out of there...
