good price. that price is invoice (28,900) minus the $750.

it is difficult to haggle at a "one price" dealership. you can ask them for accessories (rubber mats, bug deflector, trd exhaust, whatever) if you want to sweeten the deal beyond their "best price."

maybe call up a few dealers and price around? that's what i did and ended up with an "internet price" minus a very aggressive price on my trade-in.

    good luck.

Ill spare you all the long story, but I walked in ready to buy...with the Edmunds TMV report and everything...and they told me I was crazy. They wanted me to pay about $1600 more than what Edmunds (and others) show as a "fair price." (what others are paying, etc.)

"We've never heard of Edmunds!...we cant match fancy internet dreamer prices!...we would be losing money on the vehicle!...if you can get one at that price let me know so I can buy one!...you wont find one cheaper than what we are selling these for!...we never have people try to negotiate like this!"

They gave me every line in the book. So I walked out...pissed...and Tacoma-less.

True...I was just hoping to support the local dealership. There is something comforting about servicing your new vehicle at the place you bought it from.

The dealership looks at it that way too (I work at one). They usually take better care of customers on service and warranty issues if you bought the vehicle from them. However, you still need to shop around. In fact I work just down the street from Reno Toyota, but bought mine from a dealer in California, because I got a better deal.

MSRP at 31k, Invoice is $28.4k

"Best Price" was $28.4k and they alleged that was WITH the $1500 rebate. I priced it on Edmunds, option for option, and everything matched except it showed the $1500 being deducted from the $28k+ price. ($27.3k was the final price).

IrishPilot - Looks like you bought one eventually, how much was MSRP/Invoice/What you paid? Just curious, because I'm getting essentially the same BS on a 2009 4x4 I4 Access Cab

I cant be too exact off the top of my head, but it was about $200 above the edmunds TMV (just about at $28k.). I considered it a wash as they ended up offering me the best price I had received on my trade (beating the other trade offers I got by anywhere from $300-$1ooo)

Pretty much this Edmunds report. (You have to add the rebate in)

Was this the same dealer or somebody else? Just wondering if I should actually hold out for the $1000 or so different between me and the dealer (I'm looking to pay between 23 and 23.5 OTD including fees not including tax, they want anywhere from 24.2 to 25 right now)

Cash for clunkers is royally ruining my life atm, I might have to wait until that shit ends. :(

Your not alone, I'm going through the exact same thing. Last week I was qouted $27988 for a 4x4 DC, LB sport Tacoma and now they want $1500 over invoice . I'm giving up on looking for 09. Plus they are almost hard to find with the specs I want. I'm just going to wait for the 2010. The thing that pisses me off is that I applied for the preapproval and got approved. Now it will expire in 60 days. Hopefully they roll out before that and have decent rebates too.

Agreed. It was actually at the same dealership. I didnt necessarily feel great about taking my business back to them, but I was glad to buy locally and Ive got to go where I can do the best numbers wise. Like I said, I paid a little more than I would have 100mi away from home, but 100mi away from home wouldnt come close on trade (maybe they thought they could stick me since I was from out of town and must be pressed...who knows.)

I actually ended up saving money by paying more for the truck. (scratches head). I did the math to figure out what I needed in trade to negate the price difference and made sure I got that (actually got a few hundred better).

When push comes to shove I got the exact truck I wanted, at a good price. With my luck the 2010 will hit the streets in 3 weeks and be the greatest tacoma yet. I dont care. The bitchin white off-road in my garage has me so pleased that I currently cant sleep at night because Im so excited to drive to work in the morning. ;)

Go with what feels right bud. If you can get a good price on the exact truck you want, buy and enjoy. If you absolutely must pocket every spare penny out of the deal...patience will be the key. If it takes 6 months to wait for the 2010 you want with incentives you like, will a $xxx difference have been worth the wait? Do your research (Edmunds, etc.) and go with what you are comfortable.

All my local dealers are saying they will have a 2010 on the lot by the first week of Sept at the latest, and most are optimistic they will have one this month. Previous history (Im told) suggests not to expect any incentives or rebates until the excitement of a new years model dies down (a few months?) Not to mention that this C4Clunkers thing will compound that. Toyota is hurting though. In this economy who knows what to expect anymore.

MSRP was 31,xxx. Invoice was 28,100. I got it for 28,600. And they went out and found the exact truck I wanted and shipped it in.

I had a 99 Taco TRD that got bought back for 15,000 (kbb was 9800).
I also had a 92 camry (198,000 miles) I traded in, got 2000 for it.
1000 rebate for buying another Toyota.
1000 rebate for buying another Toyota truck.

    I think I did pretty good :)
