A late model used Tacoma is almost impossible to find in the used market and when you do find one they want the same amount as a new one.
That tells me Tacoma Owners love their truck, the brand of trucks you see a lot of in the used market are the ones the owners didn't like in the first place!
People don't sell and trade in or get rid of cars and trucks they like.
    simple as that!
we have a mega used car dealer in this area that sells close to 1000 used cars and trucks per month, they have every brand you can think of, before I got my new Tacoma I talked to the sales manager and told him I am looking for a used Tacoma, he told me he has none and they are hard to find, people hold on to them cause they love them, and if he had one he would sell it for top dollar and I was better off buying a new one and they have the best resale value of any truck out there.

LOL Without pictures it didn't happen..Would love to see some of those buyer's orders and/or contracts. I would bet there are dings all over the place..

A dealer can make the vehicle price look cheap by putting $1000 lower than ACV in a trade, inflating the interest rate, Adding "Doc Fees" There are a lot of ways the FINAL ACV new vehicle cost will increase as the line items add up. Buyers don't realize all "doc fees" (other than legal fees) should be added to the cost of the truck

I wan to see the bottom line.... Total cost of vehicle with ACV trade. Only then can you get complete information.

This thread is like asking what does everyone pay for insurance....

Too many variables to make a fair comparison.

For instance I traded a paid off 2010 Honda Accord Coupe EX with 7K miles. It had an ACV of $19,500. I use Carmax to give me a paper offer. New car dealers usually pay a lower ACV on a trade,

In this case I know what I can sell my car for TODAY. That's Actual Cash Value as opposed to what I think I MAY get for it, or SHOULD get for it. When someone makes an actual offer that's the value Period. Carmax is the only place I know people can go and get an ACTUAL CASH OFFER TODAY. It will be higher than a new car dealer

yeah.... I may get another $2000 selling it myself, 'it's worth more" on and on but that is "may" "if" "when" on and on. I need to know what I can get today since I am buying today.
    .
In my case I found a used truck that met all my bullet points after the model and accessories
One owner, less than 25K miles, at least one year left on Manufacturer Warranty, and a previous owner who was obviously OCD as either he replaced the bed or carried nothing but cardboard boxes and had seat covers on all seats. All prior service was done at the dealer he (and I) I purchased it from. Everything looked great. Time to deal......

The price they had on the truck was $23,995 I offered a Key to key deal. Meaning no cash just trade. I booked their vehicle out at about $20,500 Private Party retail ($22,500 Dealer retail). My target price was $500 and my car....about $20,000 OUT THE DOOR..no DOC FEES...

    http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2008/tmv-appraise-results.html

(I used Edmunds because they were closer to what Carmax offered on the trade. If carmax would have offered KBB money I would use KBB on the truck as well)

They hit me with $2000 and my car....I offered to trade Key to key. They went down to $1000... I countered with $500..they countered with $700...I agreed (because I could and did sell the USV ToolBox for the difference) and the truck was being sold for about $2000 above likely trade in value. I did not want to take another depreciation hit I took on the Honda which is why i won't buy new ever again.

    That is ALL the information.

So when someone says they got their truck for $50......that is only a small part of the story.

Ya, there's a ton of other factors that go into price. I think they were asking $27k for mine which I knew was already a pretty good price as others like it were being advertised for around $30k(I know not worth that, but you know dealers start high). This deal started pretty low, and I think I got them down to $25,500. Other than the slight wear on the tires, mine looked brand new! I was really stoked! Even if i didn't get a steal like others, I think I got a great deal, and I absolutely love my truck!!! My wife loves it as well so that's bonus points :)

$2000-$2500 below Asking price USED as a good offer and will usually move a car. That INCLUDES DOC FEES.....(other than license and title) The dealer mark up $4000-$5000 over ACV trade + recon.

I wish I could have gotten it for $1800 under invoice. I think it was closer to $500 under invoice according to Edmond's.
I had to drive 75 minutes for the deal, but well worth it IMO.

True. But I got my truck at more than $500 under invoice - all cash, no trade-in, including all doc and other dealer fees - I took almost the entire dealer holdback. So obviously it's doable with this vehicle, at least in my area. How?

    1. Know the numbers - get them from Consumer Reports, Edmunds, etc.
    2. Search inventory on Edmunds or dealer website and know who has the vehicle you want in stock.
    3. Negotiate - by email is the easiest way. I submitted pricing requests by Edmunds - got nothing useful in their first offers but by emailing back and forth with several dealers and pitting them against each other - especially asking the one who had the vehicle I wanted to beat the lowest price offered in the area. Took about 3 hours. I refused to answer any of their calls, it was easier to keep on point in writing.
    4. I bought on the last day of the month. That helps too, dealers often are trying to get their monthly sales numbers up.

I am aware that kind of deal is very possible especially conducted that way. I did the same thing shopping for mine before I decided to buy a used one I thought was a far better deal. I was getting quotes of $800 under invoice on any Tacoma via Email. Trouble was in the SET Region. They add $1200 worth of mop and glow on the Monrony sticker....There goes the prices from Edmunds and Consumer Reports. True Car and the rest. They don't know the Regional distributor's final MSRP. Which is not set by Toyota. The region adds extras then puts them on the sticker. A Virgina Tacoma will have a different sticker price than a South East Toyota. That made the sticker $1200 higher than I was figuring plus I did not need the $650 tow package....another $650.

In my case rather than come up with $7000 plus my trade then suffer an immediate on paper depreciation of and additional $4000, I decided to go key to key plus $500 on a low mile used truck..

    But when someone says

"2011 Tacoma DC Sport w Jbl $23,000 OTD"

there is zero useful information there.

Its like saying my insurance rates are "State Farm $256 a year full coverage"
