I am stingy with my tips. If you irritate the shit out of me and give me shitty service then your getting $4 bucks at most. If your awesome you'll get 20% + a call to corporate honoring your service. Mediocre service gets ~15%, and most service, IMO, is mediocre.

Back when I was a bouncer I would tip five bucks for a coffee or 10 to 15 for a meal. Now a days I only tip really good for my favorite barista. She is a cute little 19 year old that remembers my order and always manages to drop something when I come in. She deserves my money. ;)

Really? Kinda sounds like he played you guys like a fiddle, so he could get a bigger tip?

But if it is true than that is just wrong, we always tip our pizza guys a few bucks.

That is because service in Vegas sucks ...no but really, where do you work that you are serving and not getting tipped??
Awhile ago I worked at a dry cleaners with drive-up service, I made some awesome tips there..I'm sure now they don't get nearly as much.

I just got my truck smogged...there was a tip jar with a sign that read 'tips are appreciated'...why would I tip a smog guy when I'm already paying for the service and he isn't doing anything extra .

I can believe the delivery guy not getting tips from people. . . hell, some of my friends are the ones who justify not tipping certain people because their job is easy or isnt demanding. . . .=/

I usually tip based on what quality restaurant I'm in. If its a normal restaurant, about 10-20%. If its a classy joint, 25-30%. Of course the service is the ultimate deciding factor, which of course means I've left a place or two tipping almost nothing (they've really gotta be jerks to warrant that tho). Though the only places I consistently tip heavy are at pubs where the barkeeps know their stuff . . . and im a lil tipsy =p

this does not shock me. Im up here in flag. I delivered pizza for 2 years with dominos pizza. This was my tip range $0- $60 ($60 being my highest on a $500 dollar order.)

Most the time people will give there change. Like 1 or 2 dollars, others will give a $5, and sometimes you get the rare ones who give $10 or $20, and yes there are alot of people that dont give a shit about you bringing there food, and they dont tip you, Believe me it really pisses me off especially when its a huge order. So now i always tip AT LEAST 20 PERCENT EVERYWHERE I GO, EVEN SONIC!!

X1 Most of these folks are students, working horrible hours for very little money. I try to help where I can. Great service, I mean great service can and will see over 25%. If you suck, 10-15%

I'm a very generous tipper too even in the tip jars.
Most of my first jobs were waiting tables/counters & worked hard so I try to pass it on. It irks me though eating out with friends and they scam the tip or their portion of the bill even  Oh well....

Not a fan of these tip jars, if I get a cup of coffee only I might toss in the change, if I get something foofooie for the wife I will toss in a buck or so. I have left as much as five bucks at Starbucks when the person is very friendly and so on. One of my son's old g/f worked at a Starbucks an I left her a 20 on one occasion and a 10 on another. She was going to school full time and helping her parents with the bills and such.

Typically 20% or a little more.

15% is minimum, and that would depend on who i thought let me down, the server, the preparer, ot whoever.

If i can't muster at least a 15% tip, than i probably couldn't afford to eat where i did.

This is impossible for me to average. I tip based on performance. For average performance I tip 25%. I have tipped as high as 100% before, but the service was absolutely exceptional. I've only done it three times in my life. I have also tipped 0% when the service warranted it. It all depends...

Some people say 25% is too generous, but I don't think many folks realize that tipped labor does not have to be (and isn't) paid minimum wage. Most tipped service positions at your chains get $3 to $4 an hour. Upscale places pay their waitstaff more, but then gratuity is usually assessed as part of the bill at these joints anyway. They expect that if you have money, taste, and manners, you'll understand shitty tipping is bad form and don't even give you the opportunity to embarrass yourself.

    Exactly.

It's crap. You're not doing a tip worthy service. Waiters and Waitresses have to provide you with an atmosphere, they have to anticipate their tables and give chit-chat (if they sense their tables are after that).

Joe fuckstick who's making me a sandwich or flipping my burger?

    I don't think so.

I generally trip 20% or maybe a little over if the service was really exceptional. These folks are working their butts off for crap wages and rely on their tips for their livelihood. Now, if you get a real jerk for a wait-person I'll maybe go 10% but they have to be pretty incompetent. Like the girl who spends all her time waiting on the guys and ignoring me and my friends or screws up the order and acts like it's your fault. There are some of those, but generally I find wait-staff to be very conscientious, hardworking folks. I agree that if you can afford to eat out, you can afford to leave a decent tip.

    thats an interesting question.

there is a california pizza kitchen near my place that my wife and i order from sometimes. they dont have a tip jar on the counter, but when i pay with my debit card, the reciept has room for a tip. i have never tipped in this case, but have wondered if i should have.

i think if i did tip in this case, it would only be a few bucks since the person at the take out counter was only placing my food in a bag and not waiting on me for 30-45 minutes as if i had actually eaten at the restaurant.

hmm... my sister worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years... the next time i see her, i think ill ask her what she thinks.

I've worked those kinds of jobs so I never try to screw anyone over with a tip but there was this one instance at a Red Lobster where the service was just HORRIBLE. That resulted in me leaving a negative tip. That's right. Negative tip.

After they ran my card and brought the reciept back to the table I wrote -20% for the tip and then wrote in the new calculated total for the bill. Ultimately my card was charged for the actual amount of the meal but I'm sure waitress took the hint.
