HA HA!! I know what you mean. There is one Mexican restaurant around here with two extremely well endowed young ladies that usually work at the checkout register. And they dress for success too. If you don't watch what you are doing, you will accidently write extra zeros on the end of the tip amount.

For good service usually between 15-20%. For great service I'll go up to 25% and let the server know that it was great service. For bad service I will tip whatever loose change is left and also let the server know they need to work on their table skills.

I am sure the servers always appreciate your constructive insight.Perhaps they could go to your job with you and do the same.

I usually put about 20 percent. Or 5 bucks minimum. At bars I give the bartender a buck for every drink I order. 2 if they hook it up a bit in my drinks.

It really depends on the server. I have tipped a guy $20 for a $30 meal for making fun of my friend. If my tea gets empty and it's not filled in say 5 mins they start losing on their tip. I have tipped well over 50% before like say around Christmas time I tip better because we all know how tough that time of the year can be. I tipped a friend that had to work on her birthday $100.

Tipping the bartender will always save you money in the long run :). Usually a good bartender will hook you up with stiffer drinks (or free drinks) when you tip a little. At $4-$8 a drink the savings add up quickly when you get freebies.

Here in California I don't know of anyone who makes less than minimum wage as a server ($7.75 an hour or so + tips). I think that most servers who do a good to great job don't get stiffed too often. I give 15-25% usually depending on the service. Refilling my drink and a good attitude goes a long way towards what I leave. I think that people who often complain about getting stiffed on the tip need to honestly evaluate their own performance. If you are only pleasant when you're dropping off the bill then you will probably not be getting a decent tip.

As far as percentages go...I was recently in Kentucky and I got a really good bbq dinner for $10. I left a $5 tip for my server. In the SF bay area that same dinner is $25. I might still only leave a $5 tip. One tip is 50% and the other is 20%. Same meal.

In a lot of other countries the tip is included with the posted price of the meal. I like it better that way. I can always leave a few extra dollars on the table if I got exceptional service. In a lot of other countries tax is also included in the posted price. I like that better as well.

If you are one of those people that believe a 20-25% tip is your "right" just for showing up to work then you will usually be disappointed with what you get. I once left 3 cents for really bad service too. That restaurant has also lost my business for life.

This, right here. I rarely eat out anymore for the sole reason that I hate tipping. Is the restaurant owner lowering the price of the food so that the customer makes up his employee's wages? What is it we are exactly tipping for? The "service"?
Here in Ca. there are a few restaurants in which I order my food myself, yet the clerk brings it to me, checks on me periodically, brings my silverware, everything except writing down the order, yet nobody even thinks about tipping them and they don't expect it. What's the difference there?
I have had the "tipping" conversation with all of my server friends, and I always get the exact same response, "you don't understand because you've never been a server". Bottom line is restaurant owners are making a killing by having the customer pick up the tab for their staff. If anyone deserves the tips, it's the cooks, they work 20 times harder than any server.
Now that the rant is over, I usually tip well I go out, on those rare occasions, and at the bars I frequent. (I don't even want to get started on tipping bartenders)

It depends on how she looks and dresses, better looking and more skin larger tip.

jk, I tip $.01-20% bad services get change to let them know I didn't just forget but I haven't had to do that in a few years. Most of the time they get 15% for average service, more for great service and less for bad.

The server didn't bring me my hot sauce the other day, got both orders wrong, and was so...fake and animated...i didn't tip her at all.

20% and work my way down or up from there. I HATE tip jars at the 7/11 cash register, burger joint, etc.

I guess around 20%. I left a waitress 3 pennies once. We saw her once to take our order and she brought the food out. No refills on drinks or anything.

I voted 15-20% & that varies depending on the place, the service, how much service I actually require & how many different ones actually do the serving. I prefer the same one throughout the meal but increasingly so, that is not what happens & then if one sucks and the other doesn't, the tipping can get confusing. If they are just asking if I need sauce or something like that and just refilling water then it's a bit less. Depending on the hookup received, it could be more than the 15-20%.

Especially with bartenders in a place I plan on going back to, best way to drink for "free"... or at least not have to wait for a drink at a busy bar.
