I would hope so. I've been known to tip service techs, etc. too though.

Do Canadians tip? I didn't know that was a part of the culture? I thought the US was one of the few places around that still had tipping as a part of their culture.

I just double what ever the tax was. So Tx tax is 8.25% so the get a 16.5% tip, unless they are really good/bad then the % may change. I tip delivery people a little more though.

The way I see it, it is the restaurant's owners doing the punishing and it is their paying customers they are punishing.

Again, I see the concept of tipping as something outdated from the 18th century. I do not have any servants nor do I have any need for anyone to serve me. I also have no human desire whatsoever to prove what a bigshot I am or to gain extra favor or "service" by handing out money.

But I do tip fairly due to the social pressure involved. I just believe both the servers are being shorted and the customers are being gouged by an antiquated custom. I only go to a restaurant because I am hungry, not to bask in the power trip of having someone wait on me. Therefore I avoid most places that I feel are overpriced where I know they are going to expect and unfairly large (IMO) tip.

I know many have different expectations at a restaurant and I don't begrudge that at all, but there are a lot of different viewpoints on this issue.

People can better there lifes, if they don't choose to..that is not my problem. There are so many oppurtunities out there to go back to school. Grants, financial aid, etc.

I got tired of making 9 dollars a hour, so I decided to better my life and continue my education. It never is too late to further your education.

Like I said, that's just my view. We are all entitled to our opinion.

I definetly do, I make good money for what it is. Thats besides the point.

Like I said, it's not my problem if they dont want to get off there ass. There are night/online classes out there for almost every form of education partaining to a trained career out there.

    Just my .02

I answered 15-20% because that is my norm. However, I have tipped 30-40% for outstanding service, and a big fat goose egg a few times for total shit service.

Glad you're not a snob. If anyone on TW works in a restaurant, don't spit in this man's food. He doesn't tip not because he thinks he's better than you, but because he thinks you can do better.

I'll see your .02¢, and tip an extra $1
Not that I'm here to argue.

I adhere to a strict tea to tip ratio, if my glass remains full, i am happy and they're tipped as such. God help them if they dont refill. Zero tip

I never understood the idea of tipping someone for just doing their job. I don't get tipped to do my job.

That being said, there is no way in hell employers should be allowed to pay less than minimum wage...that is absurd. Why should restaurant owners be allowed to pocket all this additional cash?

    I tip well BTW.

    you don't make $2.15/hour

I see what you mean though, it is stupid that the company pockets the extra $ making the customer take up the slack. It does ensure that the server does the best job possible though.

LOL my uncle used to do something similar. Except he would put the tip on the table in plain sight as soon as he sat down. If the service is good the tip stays. As the service declines dollars start coming off the pile

Depends on service, if they were shit i give them a penny so atleast i can say i "tipped". If they were good i'll give them up to 25%.
