I have roof rust on my reg can... Was wondering if anyone has an idea of what maaco might charge to get rid of the rust and repaint my roof

I'd do that, but i just don't know if I'd be able to get all the rust out.... Would be a great time to have a friend who owns a body shop lol

The key is to sand ALL of the rust off, keep the area clean and DRY before you hit it with a good primer, THEN get it painted. The rust won't come back then.

That's what I did when I did it myself, looked like all the rust was gone, but low and behold it apparently it wasn't

did you properly prep the bare metal with a wax and grease remover and immediately hit it with a primer/sealer?

I didn't use grease remover, just wiped it off and primed it

What primer and paint did you use? How was it applied?
Typically these are the steps required for a quality paint job: sanding to complete bare metal, prepping the metal with grease and wax remover, epoxy primer, high build primer, color coat, clear coat, wet sand, compound, polish, gloss enhancer...
PPG concept is what I've used with excellent results in a 2 car garage.

Haven't done painting in quite awhile, but if the rust came back either the metal wasn't prepped sufficiently, or if you ran improper primer that let moisture come through before the paint was sprayed on.

    -not a painter

If theres rust scales need to chip it off .But being on the roof need to be careful. If not sand good and treat with osphos metal prep or por 15 metal prep or por 15 paint. Follow instructions then paint .

There is a problem. If you just put a primer on first, and not a sealer/primer, then you will have problems. A primer does not prevent moisture from getting to the bare metal underneath. You have to seal the metal. You can make your own by taking a quality primer, and mix an appropriate amount of hardener to it.
